Dowd: Slapping the Other Cheek (MoDo on the RW Fundies)
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/14/opinion/14dowd.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&position=

You'd think the one good thing about merging church and state would be that politics would be suffused with glistening Christian sentiments like "love thy neighbor," "turn the other cheek," "good will toward men," "blessed be the peacemakers" and "judge not lest you be judged."

Yet somehow I'm not getting a peace, charity, tolerance and forgiveness vibe from the conservatives and evangelicals who claim to have put their prodigal son back in office.

I'm getting more the feel of a vengeful mob - revved up by rectitude - running around with torches and hatchets after heathens and pagans and infidels.

One fiery Southern senator actually accused a nice Catholic columnist of having horns coming up out of her head!

Bob Jones III, president of the fundamentalist college of the same name, has written a letter to the president telling him that "Christ has allowed you to be his servant" so he could "leave an imprint for righteousness," by appointing conservative judges and approving legislation "defined by biblical norm."

1. I appreciate Maureen's perspective...
She's one of my favorite columnists.

2. Too little and too late from Whoreen
This liar put us in the situation we're now in.

Take a look at the Daily Howler and see what a liar Whoreen Dowd is!

3. The Daily Howler link doesn't work. Here's one that does, and text.
First, the text:

----
Dowd appeared on Imus last week, and alas— we accidentally taped over the session. But several of her comments were so inane—so weirdly disturbed—that we can pretty much recite them from memory. Instantly, Dowd complained about Kerry’s hunting. He was only doing it because Bush does it, she said—then she said that the copy-cat aspect of the conduct makes Kerry seem “like Bush’s woman.” Heh heh heh heh heh, Imus said. Are you sure you don’t mean to say something stronger? And Dowd allowed that she probably did. She then went on to offer another insight, saying that Kerry just seems like “a loser,” like Gore. What did she mean by that? You know the way Gore won the popular vote but still lost the election? she said. Well, Kerry is like that, Dowd told Don, in that he won all three debates but lost in the polls. You don’t want your candidate to be “a loser” like that, the Fatuous One daftly said.

Kerry seems “like Bush’s woman!” Try to believe that a person as empty as Maureen Dowd plays the role she does in your political culture. Fatuous, vacuous, inept and inane, she’s currently counting up Kerry’s contractions. Everything changed on September 11. Everything changed except that.

4. I'll concede that particular attack on Kerry
was low and bitchy. And I definitely don't want to get into a pissing contest about it. But hasn't Dowd done many more anti-chimp, anti-war pieces? I don't remember specifics, but her pieces have overwhelmingly left a favorable impression on me, at least in terms of causing the other side more pain than ours.

Dial me in if I'm on the wrong track.

5. As Bartcop says...
"She hates everybody."

But yes, she's taken many more shots at BushCo. In fact, she has an entire book about him, "Bushworld."
