Ok people, just because it's Al Jazeera doesn't mean it can't be true.......

U.S. uses napalm gas in Fallujah – Witnesses

(snip)
"Halifax Labor MP Alice Mahon said: "I am calling on Mr. Blair to make an emergency statement to the Commons to explain why this is happening. It begs the question: 'Did we know about this hideous weapon's use in Iraq?'"

2. Have you seen Control Room?
The documentary, Control Room, gave me a lot of reassurance about Al Jazeera and it's reporters.

The changes in Lt. Rushing over the course of the documentary gave me hope that lessons could be learned here.

The silencing of the American Press kills that hope daily.

To all who haven't - see the film.

13. aljazeera.com is NOT the website of the TV station
it is a small, apparently independent website run from a mailing address in London by an outfit called "Island Publishing" about whom nothing appears on the Web.

The TV station's website is http://english.aljazeera.net .

This particular story seems to be put together from the Sunday Mirror piece, this report from Dahr Jamail and maybe other sources. It may all be reliable - but it's not the people fromn Control Room.

4. there are numerous accounts that we did
but the Pentagon says it is not identical to Vietnam era napalm in that the propellant is different. So when they deny "napalm" thats what they mean, one ingrediant differs. It does the same thing, in the same hideous way. Googling "White Phosphorus" use in Iraq shows we are using this as well.

11. "We" did not do anything...
I don't want to sound in a snit, but it troubles me when, in discussing the war, we refer to what the military has done as being something "we" have done. I never supported the war, and I have sadly come to the conclusion that I cannot support the troops. The only moral choice for a soldier caught up in this vicious immoral illegal war is conscientious objector status.

All that aside, nothing the Pentagon and administration are doing is being done by me. This is not a game where we have to choose sides and be loyal to our side and take blame and credit for what "our" side has done.

I like the political slogan, "not in our name."

Please just refer to the administration or the Pentagon or the Marines or the military as using napalm, not "us".

12. Point taken
And I agree.

I'm used to being lumped into the term "Americans" and it's more important now, than ever, to separate myself from what my government and military are doing.

I really do want the rest of the world to understand how much support they DON'T have.

Thanks.

7. I didn't claim to have proof.
I didn't claim to have proof. Which is why I said, "Ok people, just because it's Al Jazeera doesn't mean it can't be true......."

Before you can get proof you have to question and unfortunately America's press isn't into questioning much these days. So I get a lot of my news stories from other countries now to get a different perspective of what's going on in our world.

It is our world you know.

PJ

10. US admits it used napalm bombs in Iraq
By Andrew Buncombe in Washington

American pilots dropped the controversial incendiary agent napalm on Iraqi troops during the advance on Baghdad. The attacks caused massive fireballs that obliterated several Iraqi positions.

The Pentagon denied using napalm at the time, but Marine pilots and their commanders have confirmed that they used an upgraded version of the weapon against dug-in positions. They said napalm, which has a distinctive smell, was used because of its psychological effect on an enemy.

A 1980 UN convention banned the use against civilian targets of napalm, a terrifying mixture of jet fuel and polystyrene that sticks to skin as it burns. The US, which did not sign the treaty, is one of the few countries that makes use of the weapon. It was employed notoriously against both civilian and military targets in the Vietnam war.
