Well there you have it, Mr. Falwell's opinion on War

<snip>

Christians have struggled with the issue of war for centuries. Before Jesus arrived on the scene, all good people wrestled with war and the existence of evil. Thankfully, the Bible is not silent on the subject.

<snip>

With the Bible clear on our responsibility to live peaceably, it seems that there would be no reason to ever go to war. However, if one depends on the Bible as a guidepost for living, it is readily apparent that war is sometimes a necessary option. In fact, just as there are numerous references to peace in the Bible, there are frequent references to God-ordained war.

<snip>

President Bush declared war in Iraq to defend innocent people. This is a worthy pursuit. In fact, Proverbs 21:15 tells us: "It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity."

One of the primary purposes of the church is to stop the spread of evil, even at the cost of human lives. If we do not stop the spread of evil, many innocent lives will be lost and the kingdom of God suffers.

Finally, some reading this column will surely ask, "Doesn't the sixth commandment say, 'Thou shalt not kill?'"

Actually, no; it says: "Thou shalt not commit murder."

1. Freaking scary

So what's a couple million homosexuals? After all, we're killing them to stop evil.

These people are truly frightening and devoid of any humanity.

Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 08:13 PM by sparosnare
Your glorious leader Bush is responsible for murdering over 100,000 innocent Iraqis. You can shove your God-ordained war and the rest of your mumbo jumbo up your ass.

3. Bullshit, jerry Freakin foulsmell!
"bush declared war on Iraq" because he's a dumbshit and couldn't find osama so he went after the wrong man.

Many thousands of innocent deaths later..there is nothing accomplished but deaths and maims for life.

Jesus would not bomb Iraq..so you go take your false profit/propheteering, jerry ..and beg forgiveness!

4. This reminds me of a Peanuts cartoon, from back when it was funny
...and thoughtful. (Hey, I'm old.)

Charlie Brown was quizzing Linus about what he was looking up in the Bible -- was he looking for teachings and guidance? Comfort?

No, he was looking for a Bible verse to back up one of his preconceived notions.

That's EXACTLY what the worldnetdaily readers were looking for, and it's just what Falwell had for them. Evil old bastard.

5. "Before Jesus arrived on the scene..." - ???!!!
Does mf fallwell know God's will better than Jesus?

I do believe Jesus taught tolerance, and peace, not bigotry and violence.

falwell has no right to call himself a Christian.

He is a liar and a fraud.

Just like somebody else we know of...

7. Well silly me
I always thought that when someone was murdered they HAD been killed. How could I have missed that? What was I thinking?

Thanks to you and the b-i-b-l-e for showing me the error of my faulty thoughts, Jer.

I'm waiting patiently for that day.

9. hypocrisy or self-delusion?
I'm not sure which, but either way, it's really scary. Scarier yet is the number of people who actually take him seriously.

10. Wow - it seems that Mr. Falwell has left the Sermon on the Mount out
of his musings. Maybe he thinks the Old Testament is more important than what Jesus had to say? I have a feeling that if Jesus were around today he would condemn Falwell and his ilk along with the Pharisees for hypocrisy and general stiff neckedness.

11. falwell will likely burn in hell for the false gospel he's preached,
the perversion of god's message, and his lust for worldly power.

let him say what he wants. those who follow him and pay attention to this pharisee will find themselves in the same place if they listen to this man who takes orders from man rather than god.

12. and what other public Christian leader is refuting this BS?
100,000 dead. It's time for all good
Christian leaders to stand up to the
snake oil salesmen passing off as
true Christians.

We need some lions.

15. Lions and Big cats did not do a very good job.
They had to coerce the lions and after they killed they wanted to eat due to starvation. Bears were a little better but got tired after a while. Bulls were efficient. Elephants were spectacular but they tended to loose interest. Hippo's on the other hand were virtual killing machines.

You have to remember even with the Roman circuses and slaughter of innocents who eventually took over. Some historians and interested parties would argue the wrong brand of Christians won out. There were snake oil merchants back in Roman Empire and they are still around passing off as Christians. Proclaiming your self a "true Christian" is a good clue in identifying such filth.

14. GI Jesus: Somebody give Jerry a gun!
"Today, America continues to face the horrible realities of our fallen world. Suicide bombings and terrorist actions are beamed live into our homes daily. This serves as a constant reminder of the frailty of our flesh.

It is apparent that our God-authored freedoms must be defended." (emphasis mine)

Superstitious fools. How much blood does Jesus need before he'll restore our fallen world; 1 gallon, 2..., 3... ? Give me a fuckin' break. :puke:

New Rule!

If you claim that any religion whose prophets/leaders spoke of peace and an eternity of love after death, sanctions war...you should be ignored.

19. He is guilty of pride
He assumes an aspect about something so much greater, more complex than he could ever possibly fathom, yet he stands there and issues proclamations as if he understands it all. Pride cometh before the fall.

I am not so proud as to try to assume God's will. What I know of God is what I know of the world. Science shows me that the universe is far more complex than any single human could ever hope to fathom, yet from what we know of the universe we live in, I'd say God is too complex to judge Him as anything beyond being the architect of the universe billions of years in the making.

He gave us the ability to reason. I don't think He gave us this gift so that it wouldn't be used.

20. Jesus forgot to tell us to KILL, never MURDER for God?
Jesus asked God to "forgive them, for they know not what they do", when the Romans executed him for denying Caesar's divinity. Clearly, Jesus judged his crusifiers as having need for forgiveness for their act of execution! Isn't execution ordained and sanctioned by the religious right-wing RepubliKnz, and therefore not murder, but merely killing the convicted? They too, according to scripture, will need forgiveness for this sin, of merely "killing" via execution! And judging a people, and killing them along with "collateral damage", collective punishment is nothing less than state sponsered exection of innocent life.

22. Since the death toll for Iraqi civilians is at 100,000+
What would Falwell consider as an acceptable number of innocent iraqis killed in the name of fighting evil? 200,000? A million?
