Mileage tax proposal sticks it to drivers
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/december2004/071204taxproposal.htm

Borucki advocated taxing motorists for every mile they drive and she suggested one-tenth of a cent per mile. This, she believes, would gain the state Treasury more than $300 million per year, money that could be used for highway construction and repair.

How would the state figure this out, you ask? We wondered the same thing.

But they had a ready answer. There are a couple of options, but all would involve placing a device on every car in the state, all the millions of them. We won't go into the technical aspects, one of which involves using GPS satellites, but they all involve some type of tracking of your personal driving.

5. Here in NY we have "Easy Pass"
The system was supposed to eliminate long lines at the toll plazas and many officials at the time, hearing the howls from those of us who don't trust the govt, assured us that the system would never ever be used for law enforcement purposes or too spy on people. That was a few years back and of course now they are using for everything they can think of. If you live on Long Island as I do, you can either wait on the long lines to pay cash at the only bridges that let you off the island, or you can check in with the govt so they know exactly where you are.

They are using it to track everyone now, with the info going right to the police so if you've missed a child support payment or have unpaid tickets, expect your pass to not be so easy. They pull you over and arrest you on the spot.

I can assure you that your new system in CA will be just more of the same nazi crap.

6. Wait, that's 200 million personal vehicles in the U.S. each . . .
. . . putting on an average of 20,000 miles per year gives a total of (200,000,000 * 20,000) 4,000,000,000,000 miles (that's 4 trillion miles). Then there are something like 20,000,000 private commercial vehicles that drive 100,000 to 200,000 miles each year for another 3,000,000,000,000 miles so that would generate a total of 7,000,000,000,000 at $0.001= $7.0 billion in tax revenues. How much do states collect now based on 6 to 8 cents per gallon? At 15 to 20 mpg that's about $0.0040 to $0.0054 per mile. She's cutting revenues by 75% to 80%

7. road tax
The only way to tax vehicles is by the weight on each tire. Our current tax on trucks is a tax on the number of axles, which encourages overloading, more axles and more tires would reduce the load per tire which would reduce maintainence costs for the road. Taxing per mile is the worst way to sustain roads.

10. Built a railroad,made it run,buddy can you spare a dime.
There could be a mileage tax charged when you renew registration and no equipment would be required, just fill in form with new reading and subtract old reading on form then multiply and write check. There could be different levels based on weight or purpose,in Florida they charge less for water if you are under a threshold and much more if you over consume.
WalMart does not want a mileage tax because it would eat into their profits. They use independent truckers as the "white hat" who would suffer but trucking companies dominate now since deregulation.WalMart does not pay workers enough so they apply for government assistance.WalMart uses public roads to move freight but does not want to pay for them, that is how WalMart can have a smile face markdown man.It is every customer that takes money away from a trucker or a worker living in subsidized housing not the government.
On talk radio the number one career I hear mentioned is truck driver, they seem proud to mention it but I have never heard a trucker say they work for WalMart.Gas prices are affecting WalMart's profits this Christmas, truckers should worry about the Iraq tax which will put them out of business if WalMart does not hire them.Deregulation really has been about shifting regulation to businesses like trucking which created the warehouse on wheels. The creator of WalMart will now be destroyed by WalMart, who needs the rapture.

11. Walmart...
is sooo anti-union. With a strong workers union, they wouldn't be able to exploit their employees.
