3. Where did the "chimpy" etc names come from? |

I know some people on DU believe we are some sort of fringe and unrepresentative of the mainstream, but if that is true, how does such a mainstream cartoonist end up with the same imagery of Bush as we often use?
It seems to me that the DU (but not only DU) worldview is not quite as fringe as many believe. Not unless guys like Steve Bell hang out here at DU with their identities hidden.
What I'm trying to say is not that DU is some sort of weather vane, but that our views and even our insulting Bush jokes are not as fringe as it would sometimes seem.

5. I tend to agree with you about DU not being out on the "fringe" as |

much as we think we are. Remember the millions who marched last year just here in the US against the Iraq invasion. We are not alone.

went from a personal joke website, via places like DU and into the mainstream.
Do you see what I am saying about DU not being "fringe". We may not be the source of these sorts of things, but through us (the corporate US, which includes pages like BartCop etc) they become mainstream. Thus we (once again, the corporate we) are the basis of mainstream liberal thought - we are the grass roots.
That is why I hate it when people say things like "but we are different" when they respond to posts saying that we are indicative of the thoughts of more than just the 30,000 odd people signed up on DU.
It's trickle UP politics. Denying DU's role in that process is self defeating.
