Rumsfeld queries uncover festering concerns in Iraq

It's not difficult to feel for the disgruntled soldiers who peppered Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld about the lack of armor for vehicles they have to drive on dangerous Iraqi roads.
A good portion of the American people either have a relative fighting the war, supporting the battle effort or know someone who does.
With a nephew patrolling in Afghanistan and an Army niece who also is overseas, I am particularly interested in whether U.S. troops have the right equipment to do the job. Relative or not, none of our fighting men and women should be sent to the front without the best protection and weapons the nation can provide them.

Still, the government must be attentive to the discontent that surfaced this week among at least a few of the rank-and-file. The soldier who spoke up in Kuwait appeared to reflect a growing concern over how and, perhaps, why the war is being fought.
