Slavery: Mauritania's best kept secret

By Pascale Harter
BBC, Nouakchott

Skyra is a runaway Mauritanian slave. Her earliest childhood memories are of fetching water, tending animals and cooking and cleaning.

Skyra was born into slavery - but her children are now free
"I was tied up all night and all day. They only untied me so I could do my chores. In the end I could barely move my limbs."

She never earnt a single penny.

"All those years," she told me, "and I don't even own a goat".

1. There are open slave markets in Dakar,Senegal. always has been, the Arabs
steal the children of the Moors and sell them right on the street..

they were doing that when i was there in 1973 and were still doing it right as pResident Bu$h declared and end to slavery during his fly by speech there a while back..

people are about as concerned about slavery as they were about the genocide in Tibet <1.25 million dead>...etc.
