Salon: Would You Like Some Freedom Fries With Your Crow, Mr. President?
Six months after spitting in the face of the world, the Bush administration is crawling on its belly before the U.N. If the world doesn't rush to help it, the White House has only itself to blame.

Let me make sure I've got this right. After being insulted, belittled and called irrelevant by the swaggering machos in the Bush administration, the United Nations is now supposed to step forward to supply cannon fodder for America's disastrous Iraq occupation -- while the U.S. continues to run the show?

In other words, the rest of the world is to send its troops to get killed so that a U.S. president it fears and despises can take the credit for an invasion it bitterly opposed.

The rest of the world may be crazy, but it ain't stupid.

The Bush administration's humiliating announcement that it wants the U.N. to bail it out officially confers the title of "debacle" upon the grand Cheney-Rove-Wolfowitz adventure. Not even the world-class chutzpah of this administration can conceal the fact that by turning to the despised world body, it is eating a heaping plate of crow. This spectacle may give Bush-bashers from London to Jakarta a happy jolt of schadenfreude, but it does nothing to help Americans who are stuck with the ugly fallout of the Bush team's ill-conceived, absurdly overoptimistic attempt to redraw the Middle East.

The bitter truth is that everything the administration told us about Iraq has turned out to be false.

4. thoroughly enjoyed reading that
Every bit of that is true. Those power hungry neo-cons have totally f*cked up and everyone else could see it coming, but no one could stop them. They are responsible for the thousands of innocent Iraqi lives lost not to mention our own increasing casualties. All of it over lies, with no end in sight. If there was true justice in the world, these bastards would be tried for war crimes, instead they're getting rich. The most they will suffer is losing the next election, or will they?

5. Couldn't have said it better

And the media are treating this as if the UN might seriously consider the US proposal.

6. pathetic media
And the media are treating this as if the UN might seriously consider the US proposal.

And how naive and stupid are they? Stupid and naive enough to buy this insulting excuse for a human being as the "president?" Check. Stupid and naive enough to give this dimwit a pass for three years? Check. Stupid and naive enough to pretend these people are "government officials" and not looters, like a Nobel prize winner termed them? Check.

The media in this country is a joke. I won't even watch 10" of their miserable excuses for a broadcast or a newspaper story.

8. If everything they told us was false, does this mean oil, hegemony,
and empire were really behind it all?

9. Asking the UN for help?

No WMD's have been found. No links to Al Qaeda or the events of 9/11 have been found. Saddam has not been found.

The Administration has been forced to admit that evidence used to justify the invasion of Iraq was forged and plagiarized.

Our fine kids serving in the military still are being killed. The ones who return never will be the same.

37, 000 Iraqi civilians, half of whom were children under the age of 16, have been killed.

A billion of our tax dollars is being dumped into the 'reconstruction' per week but Iraq increasingly teeters on the brink of civil war.

Yet we have the audacity to believe that it's time for the UN, which quite rightly refused to participate in this unholy war, to 'step up to the plate'?

Can Americans get any more dangerously, stupidly arrogant?

Pay attention, people.

Bush lied & thousands died.

Got oil?

And may God forgive America.

13. Important to repeat these points
Couldn't get much more serious. How Republicans condone this is beyond understanding. Truly subhuman.

Welcome to D.U., Laurie! :bounce: :hi:

15. Yup
It was a complete failure. I'd be sure to agree with anyone that said our government has got problems. It's just plain sad when our OWN president, one that WE elected, albiet, none of us democrats probably voted for him, just screws up this bad. It's unfathomable that something this BLATANTLY dumb could happen to a world superpower.
D U M B!!!!! And to add insult to injury, all of the republicans are strutting around like they'd just one world war three without lifting a finger! And all the while Bush is trying to bail on the whole thing. DUH! The worst part is none of them have figured out it's going to go continually down hill untill we get a liberal president in there. It's sad to say, but I really feel sorry for the soldiers who died during Operation: Iraqi Freedom. I respect them and their sacrifice of the highest price, but it is pathetic and disgraceful to everything honorable in this country for the government of the United States of America to have sent them to undertake their duty in these completely ridiculous shenanigans so the President can feel good about himself. It's disgraceful.
