Mountain Lions Move East, Breeding Fear on the Prairie - WP
OH NO, The Freeps have figured out our plan to overtake the Red States,

have all the inhabitants eaten by Lions, just like the early Christians...........

<snip>

There are also rumors across the Midwest that state game agencies -- sometimes using black helicopters -- are secretly planting mountain lions in farm country. Before the Marshalltown meeting began, these rumors danced around the community center. Andrews, the state's leading expert on mountain lions, began his slide presentation by attacking the rumors head-on.

"We did not, we have not and we will not release mountain lions in Iowa," said Andrews, who handed out a document that repeated the denial in boldface type.

2. You can't Roller Skate in Buffalo herd
And you can't have a viable population of large cats in a corn field.

These Mountain Lions will have to be as invisible as the wilderness of Iowa.

3. More "news you can use" from the Washington Post

It's actually impressive how far this once venerable paper has fallen. They've basically become a laughingstock among intelligent folks- they're really not much better than a tabloid.

This statement, for example:

"First, there are probably more mountain lions in the continental United States now than before European settlement (more than 31,000, by one recent estimate)."

That's an outright lie. Absolutely no basis in fact whatsoever. The reporter just made it up and the editor printed it!

Even John Stossel could do better than that.

The rest of the article is also alarming- as it seems to lend some credence through mention of the midwestern nutcases with their black helicopters and state government conspiracies.

Everytime I read articles like this, it becomes clearer to me just how richly Americans deserve the economic and environmental disasters that are going to befall them in the next decade.

"Even John Stossel could do better than that."

Good point. And a point that made me laugh. Thanks for a fine post and a much needed smile.

4. Our answer to "what's the matter with Kansas?"!!!!!!!!!

Nice, kitty... Nice BIG kitty!

I adore mountain lions--gorgeous animals. Of course that's as long as one isn't chasing me! But we in the Colorado foothills live with that possibility.

6. Still, if you get in your car and drive, the danger is far more real.
