December 28, 2004 -- IT will surely be difficult for many people of good will to reconcile the awfulness of the daily news coming out of Iraq deaths of and injuries to American soldiers and committed Iraqis who want nothing more than to bring freedom and democracy to a forlorn and battered country with the astonishing new poll released by the Military Times yesterday.

That poll of 1,423 active members of the military indicates that the armed forces of the United States are passionate supporters of the Coalition's efforts in Iraq.

Support for the war inside the military stands at 60 percent, 25 percent higher than the latest Gallup measurement of the American people as a whole.

When it comes to President Bush's handling of the war effort, the results are even more lopsided. Only 42 percent of Americans approve, according to ABC News. In the military, Bush garners 63 percent support.

1. i think that is meaningless bushit
even in a goofball war the soldiers obey their commanders...the commanders are charged with fighting the war, and therefore one would think that the support of the war would be 90 percent among those whose lives on the line...
a more pertinent issue is the fact the mass media lies relentlessly, publicly and provably, w/out hesitation, for geebush the invincible (as kakaka news aka foxnews, now calls geeb) and one blatant 'lie' is that 60 percent of troops support bushinc and the war! 60 percent is in fact horrific! That mean 40 percent of our guys are adrift, fighting without any belief in the necessity of it etc...and that's sickening!

2. A Republican Father’s statement to his 17 year old son or daughter:

A Republican Father’s statement to his 17 year old son or daughter:

Son, or daughter, our country and Commander in Chief has decided that it is in our best interest that you are to serve in order to fight the war on terrorism. Unfortunately, our family finances cannot support sending you to college at this time and we fall between the cracks in the ability to take advantage of the Pell Grant Program. Your mother and I have decided that it best for you to join the Military and travel to IRAQ to aide our brothers in arms. Your service in this effort is extremely important to this nation. Defeating the Islamic Radicals, spreading our version of Democracy across the globe and retaining our Freedom and Democracy here at home are the most important issues facing this nation today.

Within the next few months your decision is to be made concerning this issue. We have faith that you WILL make the right decision. God speed be with you should we never meet again this side of heaven.

A Democrat Mother’s statement to his 17 year old son or daughter:

Over my DEAD body will you be going to Iraq! Where is the baseball bat, ? “I will break your kneecaps”

God help us all

3. You let the writer of this article spin you. Stop doing that!

Ignore the tone and spin of things in news articles ... they are irrelevant. Just look at the data. Support for the war, among the soldiers currently fighting it, is 60%. Draw your own conclusions.

Personally, I think that level of support among the troops is surprisingly low.

4. The numbers many be right.
It is hard for a person to believe they are being used for evil purposes. It took years for the soldiers in Viet Nam to come to the conclusion their efforts were wrong. Some veterans still see the Viet Nam war as a noble effort.
