Editorial: Bush fails essential global test

An editorial
January 1, 2005

When other world leaders rushed to respond to the crisis caused by last Sunday's tsunamis in southern Asia, George Bush decamped to his ranch in Texas for another vacation. For three days after the disaster, the only formal response from the White House was issued by a deputy press secretary.

Finally, after a United Nations official made comments that seemed to highlight the disengaged nature of the official U.S. reaction to one of the worst catastrophes in human history, the president appeared at a hastily scheduled press conference to grumble about how critics of his embarrassing performance were "misguided and ill-informed."

Bush bragged about the initial U.S. commitment of $35 million to help respond to a tragedy that has cost more than 125,000 lives and displaced millions of people in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Somalia and other countries. What the president did not say is that this initial commitment is less than the planned expenditure for his Jan. 20 inauguration: $40 million......

2. I know his heart

and deep down inside he's a rotten bastard. Maybe W hasn't been listening to his favorite philosopher J.C. It's hard work being a compassionate conservative.

No insight into our friend. I was just poking fun at his defense of Rumsfield. Thanks for the welcome.

4. Jesus said
you will know who is good or who evil by the fruit on their tree. it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. where your money is, also is your heart. this man is no more righteous than the man in the moon.

7. Actually....

The very first monetary number run up the flag pole was

450,000 (as in slightly less than 1/2 a million)

Then I heard 3 million.

Upped to 10 million with perhaps a 20 million dollar "loan".

Then 15 million.

After a few days filled with criticisms of Bush*, it was upped to 35 million.

Now a 'pledge' of 350 million. The majority of which they'll probably never see because Bush's* pledges are bullshit.

What is 350 million? One, two or three missles? We're armed defensively 10 times over all other countries combined... but I bet there's lots 350 million dollar chunks in the 2005 defense budget for more missles (kickbacks)

As least the Chimpus Khan can apparently be shamed, or was his elite ego and beautiful mind just pissed because the lesser deemed him stingy - so he makes a bullshit pledge for 10 times the amount of 35 million.

There aren't adequate words in any language to describe how much I hate Chimpus Khan and his friends.
