CNN never uses ‘insurgents’ to describe Venezuela's US-financed rebels
VHeadline.com commentarist Oscar Heck writes: I have been away from internet facilities for a while now … here in beautiful Venezuela … but that’s ok. My wife and I happened upon a small local town restaurant to have a soft drink … it was about 36°C outside … and we had been walking for quite some time.

The little restaurant had a television (with a satellite connection, I suspect) … which was airing CNN in Spanish. One of the “news” broadcasts was related to recent Peruvian rebel activity. CNN used the word “insurgents” when referring to the rebels.

Why? Why did they call the Peruvian rebels insurgents?

My wife became angry and asked, “Why is it that CNN never used the word ‘insurgents’ when referring to the violent, US-financed anti-Chavez movements in Venezuela … even though they almost destroyed the country … even though they used consistent violence against a legitimately-elected government and against thousands of innocent Venezuelan citizens?”

It is a good question...

The USA-financed Venezuelan anti-Chavez movement used bombings, assassinations, sabotage, sedition and threats for three years in their efforts to oust Chavez … but to CNN, they were never “insurgents.”

Further commenting about CNN, my wife noted that CNN appears to refer to any rebel groups which do not side with the USA as “insurgents” … for example, the anti-invasion forces in Iraq, the rebels in Peru and the FARC and the ELN in Colombia. In my view, she is right … and I am sure that many would agree.
