Ret, Lt .Col. Kwiatkowski's scathing critic of today's festivities
Ball Gowns and Hospital Gowns--

....." I'm sure the inaugural ball will be a smashing success. One wonders if George W. Bush and his crowd of ambitious retainers would, in a quiet moment, consider the Army and Marine fashions for the coming year – body armor, backless hospital gowns, gauze and bandages, and of course, the perfectly efficient body bag."

3. Words written by a recently retired LTC - Post within the Pentagon
Wonder if O'Neal and the Swiftboater's will be hired to attack this Gentleman and an Officer.

I doubt that anyone attending the inaugural gala's will spend one moment of their time, thinking of those men and women that they were responsible for sending into a battle, based on lies, ill-equipped, and totally unplanned for. Thousands of these severely wounded are are lying in beds, within Military Medical facilities, only a few short blocks or miles from where they themselves are sipping champagne and dancing in all their splendor. Home many of these party goer's even care about the troops?

Thank you COL for a little shakeup of our hearts and minds and making us realize that there our those that deserve our deepest admiration and respect. Far to many of them, are unable to march in a parade or attend and dance at a glitzy ball. Far to many of these military returnee's, are unable to even comprehend where they are, or who their loved ones are, they are called the walking wounded.

4. blessedly unaware
excerpt:

The 25,000 mentally or physically injured who have been returned from what we now understand as the unnecessary but politically-demanded recreational fields of battle in Iraq are not dancing on air. The over 11,000 seriously injured are spending their time learning how to adapt to crippling, blinding and disfiguring injuries, and how to use their new prosthetics instead of perfecting their waltz, rumba, and line-dance technique. The almost 1,500 soldiers and marines who have died in Iraq, like the 100,000 dead Iraqis, are blessedly unaware of the gala celebrations in Washington.

We're becoming a nation of the blessedly unaware -- in more ways than one.
