Kennedy: Fascist America
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0122-10.htm

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. wants to run for Attorney General of New York State.

He might announce his candidacy within the next two weeks.

...

"While communism is the control of business by government, fascism is the control of government by business," he writes. "My American Heritage Dictionary defines fascism as 'a system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership together with belligerent nationalism.' Sound familiar?"

He quotes Hitler's propaganda chief Herman Goerring: "It is always simply a matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Kennedy then adds: "The White House has clearly grasped the lesson."

"The biggest threat to American democracy is corporate power," Kennedy told us. "There is vogue in the White House to talk about the threat of big government. But since the beginning of our national history, our most visionary political leaders have warned the American public against the domination of government by corporate power. That warning is missing in the national debate right now. Because so much corporate money is going into politics, the Democratic Party itself has dropped the ball. They just quash discussion about the corrosive impact of excessive corporate power on American democracy."

...

Lots more good quotes from RFK jr.

3. A group of NYC journalists on a talking heads show this AM discussed
the fact that if he does run, he will be running against his brother-in-law, Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is divorcing Kerry Kennedy, Bobby's sister on grounds of infidelity or adultery or something.

The journalists this morning went on to say that Bobby has some things in his past....yada,yada,yada...
They never did say exactly WHAT those things were.

All in all they are far more interested in the possible gossip and scandal side of such a contest.

One even went so far as to say, "the name Kennedy doesn't have the same cachet it used to have."

7. He had a drug problem...........
heroin, I believe, but I could be wrong on the drug. However, he has been clean for some time now, and since bush has set a precedent, I don't think it should be up for debate. And one of the many things he has going for him that the Chimp does not; intelligence.

9. Well, at this point, if he does enter the race..
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 05:40 PM by itzamirakul
I will support him.

On edit:
His article shows the kind of outspoken, truthful speech our politicians are missing.

If he ever threw his hat into the presidential race, the DLC would massacre him right out the gate. He's not centrist, Republican-lite enough for them.

10. His brother
had the drug problem with heroin, not him.

I believe he had a 'babysitter' problem, though:-(

I wish those were the types of problems we had to contend with in the current administration, instead of the little ones we have like incipient fascism, corruption and war profiteering.

in 1984. Served 800 hours community service. He's very open about it.

And I'm sorry his brother Joe didn't stay in politics.

Btw, glitch, you did a good job of culling the highlights of the article.

6. RFKjr is a true statesman...
Could he be gearing up for a future presidential run?

The importance of public service is ingrained in the Kennedy family members. I imagine that the critical state of horror Bush has foisted on our nation--has probably moved RFKjr into swift action.

I think it's awesome.

The Dems have sound, intelligent, electable leaders out there and it's time they come out of the woodwork and start fighting for this country--while we still have a country left.

I'm glad to see RFKjr using the word "fascist" to describe BushCo. After that over-the-top inaugural speech--it's about time we started calling a spade a spade.

Way to go RFKjr--it's fabulous to have you on our side.

14. When a Kennedy speaks the truth what usually happens.
I fear for MR Kennedy now that he has spoken the truth. More than likely the CIA killed JFK and now he is speaking the truth about Chimpy and his Fascist Corporate Cronies.

17. Does anyone remember...Kennedy on Limbaugh show?
If I'm not mistaken RFKjr called the Limbaugh show, when Rush was spewing some pretty ridiculous lies about the environment.

I was driving and I heard this brilliant, articulate man totally obliterate Rush.

I seem to recall hearing that the caller was RFKjr.

The call happened in the early 1990's--1992 most likely.

Does anyone else recall this?

19. We need Dems many places more than NY. Did any of you see
him on Now last night? He was bewailing the loss of fishing with his kids due to the mercury polluting our waterways. There was an additional look at the mercury in tuna and how debilitating it can be, especially to children.

22. WTG RFK Jr. !
I've heard him on C-span a few times talking about the environment; this article shows he has a broader political view, for which I'm grateful.

Hey, my dictionary says the exact same thing about Fascism. It's a wonder how the freeps can casually use the same term but have no bloody idea what it really means. Talk about dumbasses Sheesh..

I never thought we'd see another Kennedy run for office; this is encourageing news.

We surely do need more outspoken voices like his all over the country, in political places.

Reichsmarshall Hermann Goering was second in command (designated successor), Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe, President of the Reichstag, and Prime Minister of Prussia.

25. Good catch...
I noticed that too, but I figured maybe I had forgotten what I read in The Rise and Fall of the Third Riech... Great quote and it definitely applies to our government today. Scary, huh? But this adds more fuel to our will to fight, fight, fight!
