I keep hearing right wingers say how Bush is a good Christian. I have always felt like if he thinks he is following Christian principles he is very misguided but the likelihood is that he is just saying the buzzwords put into his soundbites by his handlers to please the fundamentalists. He is a Methodist member (certainly not a typical one, I might add) so he had to show up once anyway to join. Does anybody know if he ever actually attended church in his private life?

what makes for a Good Christian? And why do they say that George is one?
1. Does lying make him a good christian?
2. Sending people to their deaths needlessly, in pursuit of corporate profits and oil?
3. Misleading people by his statements?
4. Pretending to represent the middle class & those less fortunate, when in fact his only loyalty is to his wealthy backers?
5. Being a very bad role model to his daughters, who seem to be substance abusers?
6. Treating leaders of other nations like crap, like Gerhard Schröeder, and Chirac for standing up to him?
7. Saying the 'F' word when referring to Saddam?

Or rather his handlers know what code to feed him to convince the base. Who knows what beliefs, if any, he really has.(But I'm betting it's the typical fundy Left Behind stuff.) Remember when some of his staff were consulting with the fundy types last year?
The code seems to transcend the denominations that would normally be pretty competitive about claiming to be the one and only way to heaven. Pentecostals, Southern Baptists, Free Will Baptists, Southern Methodists, and more off-the-wall denominations than you could shake a stick at, all react the same way to the *code*, whether it's bush* speaking it or someone who just walked into the church building. It's like a password kind of thing; if you don't give the proper response, you are eyed with suspicion. Further *wrong* responses will confirm that you aren't a believer, resulting in a coolness towards you. Sounds loopy trying to explain it; probably one of those things you just have to eyewitness/experience.

7. Promise Keepers is actually a decent bunch... |
|
...I don't think they'd have anything to do with Your Boy George.

10. george bush is one reason I now shudder when I hear "Christian" |
|
He has totally turned me off to religion, he and his followers. Some may say my "faith" was weak anyway, to lose it so quickly. So be it. You don't need religion to uphold your conscience. Either you have one or you don't, and you use it or you don't.
bush can spout scripture and claim he prays, but that doesn't make him a Christian, no more than going to McDonald's makes a person a hamburger.

12. What would Jesus bomb? |
|
The essence of Christianity is to be as much like Christ as humanly possible. Not only does Bush not fit this bill, this simple concept is too much too handle for most of the congregation.

13. Christians should read this about George |
|
He is not a Christian because of one thing and will never be a Christian because of this. Because he is devoid of a conscience. It takes a swipe at Gore but the point is about Bush. http://www.cuttingedge.org/news/n1398.cfm
