Bush's Pattern Of Paying Lip Service To "Progressive" Causes |
|
I'm sure I'm not the only one - and forgive me if this subject has been examined here before - but one thing I have noticed about Bush and his speeches.
He will often tout things that he knows resonates with the moderate to liberal side of the country - But things that he has NO intention (or ability) to follow through on.
His pledge to combat AIDS in Africa, his 'investment' in alternative (hydrogen) fuels, his willingness to sign CFR, his agreeing to institute a 'guest worker' program and now his desire to 'Go to the moon'.
Some (not all) of these things would be seen as antithetical to his Conservative base. I am convinced that there is sort of an subliminal wink and nod among 'conservatives' that Bush is "just saying" these things to placate the left side of the nation.
It's hard to explain but I find that whenever Bush makes a move that I agree on - it has always been in words and not action. For example, I could see him coming up with some elaborate environmental protection 'proposal' - he would make the headline - and then just kind of forget about it.
I have a feeling he is going to make some kind of similar move with the Iraq situation before the election. He's going to say something to indicate that maybe the U.N. will take a larger role - but will do nothing about it.
Anyway, just curious if anyone else has noticed this apparent strategy.

1. Of Course....its his bread and butter... |

The reason conservatives are in power right now is because their side realizes it is bullshit pandering, and our side would scream bloody murder and vote Nader if one of our candidates did the same thing.
It's called POLITICS and we had better learn to pick up some of our own subliminal messages....

Exactly. The Repukes seem to totally understand that when Shrub says something they don't like he's "just saying it" - And come election day, as long as he's not done anything about it - everything is fine with them.
It's just strange because every once in a while Shrub will 'propose' something that is totally out of character for his administration and it is so glaring that it is just bullshit because it is so far out of line - but nobody notices these things.
Is there anybody on earth that thinks he will honestly invest one dime into alternative fuel research?

3. When he announced the African AIDS... |
|
program, someone on San Francisco said "Don't hold your breath waiting for the check."
No too long before that, he made a big speech about aids here, and the next day axed it from the budget. Just like he killed the african AIDS money.
It's their modus operandi. Make a speech that everyone hears, and then do whatever they feel like when no one's looking.
It' been noticed, it's been talked about, but it just doesn't get traction.
Like so, so many other things.
