4. He was first person in his family to get past 2nd Grade! Attended
2 room school house. His teacher didn't have a degree but loved history.

Way back then in West Virginia.....hard to imagine 85 years ago what the schools were like.

Talking about going up the holler and up the ridge where he had a childhood sweatheart. Went home to house with no electricity but with a telephone where he could call his friend and everyone would listen. Back then one had "Party Line."

Now talking about the Euphrates River (Iraq). He's saying History can and does repeat itself.

5. He saying Reagan and Bush needed to be opposed for taking power to declare
Edited on Sat Jan-10-04 05:24 PM by KoKo01
War! He's digging at the Power of the President to Declare war. He had HUGE applause in the audience when he said that.

He's now going on more about the "rights of the people" and how he warned that when the Roman Senate reliquished control of the "Purse to Caesar and the Emperors who followed Caesar, then ROME CEASED TO BE A REPUBLIC!. He said as long as he's in the Senate he will fight so that doesn't happen!

(Jeeze I've forgotten how to spell Caesar :-()

7. I think he's advocating teaching History as History instead of "Social
Studies." He's saying how deficient our teaching is of history in schools today. "To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain a child (quote from Cicero)" He says some are on Capitol Hill and some are in the White House who remain "immature in outlook." (Big laugh from audience.) He says "a yearning for Fleeting Fame and Big Money!)

8. "One cannot Value what One Cannot Understand." He's become alarmed
at the blatent ignorance of our youngfolks who aren't aware of the vital
importance of History.

9. Well that's it. Congratulations Sen. Byrd and thanks again for making
points on the Infant Terrible.....and the rest of the idiots who have no sense of anything but their wallets and their power.

Now, onto Al From and Newt Gingrich. DLC against the Jerk!
