Half a trillion? Entirely managable....
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/20040107-0951-bush-deficits.html

Treasury Secretary John Snow:

He said the $500 billion deficit "is not historically out of range and it is entirely manageable."

Snow said that instead of rolling back the tax reductions, which Democrats contend have gone overwhelmingly to the wealthy, they should be made permanent. He said if the 2001 and 2003 tax cut bills had not been passed, 109 million taxpayers would face tax bills this April 15 that would be on average $1,544 higher.

On the average?? To who, Rush Limbaugh or someone else making 25 million per year? Total total bullshit, but something that Joe Sixpack can use as a talking point.

David

1. I love the way the Repubs keep saying the economy is recovering...
for WHOM ?? is the question I want to see them answer. Just saw a poll on CNN asking what is the biggest source of stress, jobs/unemployment, crime, or one other factor (I forgot which). I voted for 'jobs' and saw the results: 79%. I think the Bush tax cuts gave the wealthy more money to gamble on the market, driving stock prices up (but their underlying values, income, assets, are THESE REAL factors up, or is this a bubble again???) Let the liars keep saying how good the economy is going....while the country goes jobless and without health care etc. The Repubs will just keep demonstrating what 'truth' is for them.

4. I'm already working below minimum wage as adjusted for inflation since
the last minimum wage increase, can't afford health care offered by my company, and just in case I might be able to afford it, they push management to hire more and more employees, cutting the hours of long time staff, so that we fall below the minimum 30 hours a week required to be eligible for the med plan.

6. With a liveable income being around $10/hr,
and lots of retailers pushing for 30 hr/week part time jobs...

Hell, they should make suicide readily available if this is the world they want to create.

8. That's all those workers in San Anton for Levi's were making....
Shit,to listen to Levi's you'd thought these people were pulling down 100K per year because of their over priced union wages. The article said most were making about 10.00 per hour and some were at $12.00.

GD,they act like $20K per year is now some outrageous pay scale....SOAB!!

2. the usual fun with averages
citing mean where median would make more sense.

i sometimes play bridge with warren buffett. on average, we're multibillionaires. our average tax reduction, thanks to bush, was millions upon millions.

which is great for me, since i've never seen anywhere near that kind of money.

9. Snow was sickening on "This Week"
I used to watch "This Week" every week until about a year ago. It is a place now for the government to spout their lies. Jack Snow was on today backing up what the spinners/liars call a jobless recovery. There is no recovery without jobs and I do not care how they spin it. There were 144,000 new jobs in the last quarter according to the chart they presented and the economy needs to add 150.000 jobs a month to stay even. We are sinking and the huge debt is growing at an incredible rate with no end in sight. I had to cut it off as Snow's words were absent of any sincerity.
