Seeking an earlier wire(?) story when O'Neill interview first broke...
There was a post that included a link to an AP or other wire story (I think) that talked about an unidentified administrative source's initial reaction to the O'Neill book. It pointed out that the WH would discredit him as disgruntled. However, the story also pointed out the WH concern over another book soon to come out and by someone whose credentials would be harder to take on. Does anyone remember this post? Can you help me find it and identify what the other coming book is? I've tried to search, but no luck. Thanks!

1. As I said elsewhere once,
they're using the "he's a little nutty and a little slutty" on O'Neill. Drudge is calling him an inspector to mock him. Since he's clearly discussing classified material, I'm wondering how he's still a free man.

2. I'm also wondering about the classified material
Is it "classified enough" to get O'Neill in trouble? Is it stuff that's illegal for O'Neill to posess and leak? If so, is O'Neill hoping to avoid prosecution because of a public outcry? I'm glad he released it, either way, but it does make one wonder.

4. I doubt possessing it has any bearing on this.
He said he saw materials clearly marked as secret, and he has broadcast their contents to the media and threatened the security of the US, so as far as I'm concerned, Ashcroft could have him indicted by a grand jury any time. If they're not doing it then it's purely politics, like the talk of putting Dean in federal prison for jeopardizing nuclear power plant security in Vermont.

6. But the 19,000 pages
...are any of those alleged to be classified?

Thanks.

3. The Missing Link? Richard Clarke's book....
How's this?

A really juicy DU link discussing all of this, and deepening the picture.

The Bush White House is nervous about two forthcoming books by former insiders.

Ex-Bush Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill assails the president for a lack of interest in substantive policy in a book written by journalist Ron Suskind that will be trotted out with great fanfare on CBS's "60 Minutes" this weekend.

One Bush insider, however, ventures that no one really cares what a former Treasury secretary says.

But, a book due out later by Richard Clarke, the White House's top terror expert under both President Clinton and President Bush, is another matter.

Mr. Clarke is known to feel the Bush administration largely ignored the threat of terrorism and Osama bin Laden before 9-11, even after al Qaeda in June 2001 claimed responsibility for the bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 American soldiers

9. Kevin Philips is an old time
republican c conservative. That is a switch. Maybe they feel the bush family are not real republicans and just opportunists?

10. I pre-ordered Richard Clarke's
book this morning from Amazon. The name of the book is "Against All Enemies: Inside the White House's War on Terror - What Really Happened". The book is supposedly due out around April 4.
