No one could have imagined.....
at least, no one in the US House and Senate. They believed that the Commander in Chief of our nation would never take us to war without provocation or in self defense. There was just too much integrity in the presidency to believe otherwise. No matter if the CinC was of the other Party, when it came to matters of war and peace, he would never be dishonest about such information, and could be trusted to be honest and do what was in the best interests of the security of our nation.

It was tradition. Politics stopped at the waters edge. Surely Gephardt, Lieberman, and Kerry believed in the traditions of the established relations in Washington. They had been there a long time. They were not fools. But they were naive to the intent of the regime that had taken power. Their ideas about "bi-partisanship" and supporting the CinC in times of "war" were part of their nature and their psyche. It was not possible for them to be lied to about such dire situations. It just didn't happen in Washington.

But they were. And now, they are trying to reconcile their longheld beliefs about compromise politics in Washington with the treachery that has befallen them. Each day, a new fact is brought forward and each day another excuse for going to war is plowed under by the evidence. And each day, those that supported this war, are face to face with the truthand they continue to turn from the mirror.

1. "It just didn't happen in Washington."
But it did, and what's more, we told them it would.
