O'Neill Calls Tomorrow - Calls to Sen/House and more...the country is ours
We may never have a "bigger softball pitch" ... thanks to the heroic efforts of Paul O'Neill ..

Let's take back our country
---------------------------
* Calls to your senator, congressman, media, tv etc.....should start tomorrow.

What should we demand?
-----------------------
* Sen/House support to gather O'Neill's evidence so that they can determine if this is derserving of impeachment. (we will have the book..so it's not like the committe can lie about content)

* Specific feedback as to what thier view are....so that we can "vote them out of office" if they disagree with "blatant lies" and deception for "Iraq Oil"

* Clearly, they themselves have to feel "had" and if they don't ...then they are just as guilty for NOT DEMANDING the Truth.

Does anybody have a master list or phone numbers to share for the good people of DU.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

I'm also going to contact other Dems that are the firebrands and asking them to step in.

It can't hurt.

3. The Democrats can hold their own independent hearings....
with the power to subpoena the author and the 19,000 documents. Chances are they will never again get the opportunity to see the secret workings of this regime. They would be doing the Party a favor but more importantly, they would be doing the country a favor.

12. We need to get moveon.org on this. They're obsessing about the Nazi
-Bush thing right now. They need to drop that and get on with business. We can't afford to have that group "tied up" with this during election season.

I believe that this was the opportunity that the Pubs were looking for to "wound" moveon.org. They got on that issue like "white on rice." The Repubs were shaking in their boots about moveon.org - it is a very effective group. The best thing that's happened to the Dem Party in years.

I think moveon.org is worried about a backlash from the Jewish community and are spending a lot of time mending fences. It would be a shame if that group goes down the tubes...

8. Fanning the flames
We've been waiting for ONE Bush "Insider" to come forth with the Truth. O'Neill isn't any "crackpot" who can be easily dismissed or discredited. That he has 19,000 documents of evidence at his disposal makes him somewhat of an "Untouchable" for the BFEE.

The 'Merican Public WILL take notice of this story because of 60 Minutes's credibility and the rest of the media wanting to jump on the bandwagon in short order. The "Buzz" has started. Now that the slumbering populace is groggily starting to open their eyes, PLEASE let's hammer the message home.

I ask each and every person reading this thread to make at least one copy of the "Whispering Campaign" for distribution tomorrow. Keep the message/info
flowing. Keep the energy/focus where it needs to be.....just ONE danged copy is all I ask.....just ONE and I will be grateful.......so are you "in" or not?

10. Oh good grief...
..I swear to God, everytime Bush has a bad press day, or even just a bad press incident - many people here on DU thinks it could potentially lead to impeachment.

I saw the CBS interview and there is absolutely not one shred of anything that could lead to Bush's impeachment, censure or even significant drop in his poll numbers.

The fact that Bush has planned Saddam's removal and the occupation of Iraq is just not impeachable. They probably have planned for the invasion of Venezuala and North Korea too. Bush can't be impeached over this, or for being a moron during meetings, or for assigning dopey nicknames to people.

One of the reasons so many people here on this forum feel so let down by the press is that everytime even a minor story breaks, half the forum gets it in their head that it is a far bigger story with larger consequences for Bush than it really is.

People really need to stop overhyping things and allowing their wishful thinking get the best of them.

Bush will not EVER be impeached - especially so long as the GOP owns the House and Senate. It is not going to happen.

This story will be yapped about for a few days in the media, the books release will lead to a little bit more discussion, and then the entire thing will be forgotten. It will amount to some bad press for Bush which is a positive thing, it provides Democrats more fodder in the general election against Bush which is really the best aspect of this, but this story is not the "beginning of the end of Bush" nor does it mean "Bush is toast" or "Bush is done".

Sigh...

purposefully misleading this country to war --- a war for oil -- and taking us away from fighting the reall terrorists (OBL supposedly)

How can you not see that he lied in the SOTU after you have been shown documents divvying up Iraq Oil in early 2001?

"How can you not see that he lied in the SOTU after you have been shown documents divvying up Iraq Oil in early 2001?"

Look, all I am trying to tell you is that they could have believed Saddam had WMD's all along, and Clinton himself warned of Saddam's WMD's. The fact that Bush had planned for the invasion of Iraq from day one and had maps of the Iraqi oilfields could just be called prudent planning for a possible eventuality. We know he used 9-11 as an excuse, the rest of the world knows Bush used 9-11 as an excuse to invade Iraq, indeed most of America probably knows it to. But many people still agree with the decision, and some map of oil fields are not going to change anything.

It is not impeachable. I know you want it to be. I wish it were. I know the entire forum wishes it was. But it just isn't. You can't impeach Bush over some map of divied up oil fields whether they had it prior to the SOTU, after, or in 1999. We live in the real world, not some fantasyland where every bad news cycle for Bush is impeachable.

Your letting your wishful thinking run wild, and you are going to be dissappointed again and again and again.

Discuss it all you want. Call Congress people about this till your fingers go numb and your voice is hoarse. It will not matter one iota. Bush is not going to be impeached, and the story will not have much staying power.

15. I agree however ...
I believe this will hurt him politically. What I saw on 60 minutes may not be to the level of impeachment, but I think it puts Bush in an awkward position going into the election. The Democratic candidate will jump all over this and it will surface again. The timing is not good for Bush.

Good point- however, the bad news for Bush is overshadowed by the bad news for the Dem fromtrunner ("Dean is a racist" via some sort of Saturnian calculus), unfortunately; NBC's Today Show led their news round up this AM with the Dean story BEFORE the O'Neill story....I think the media is doing their "level best" to make sure that Dean gets smeared before Bush does.

16. Bush is on record saying...
..there were no plans to invade Iraq before 911. "Prior to September 11th, we were discussing, uh, smart sanctions."

Sadly, though, I think you're right. This is fodder for the campaign, but not impeachment. Unless, of course, revelations lead to further, more damaging revelations. Isn't that how these things work?

26. I beg to differ
This would be the perfect time for an impeachment. If the procedure is started now, Bush might be out of a job about a month before election day.
I couldn't stomach having Cheney as President, but I can hold my breath for a month. It would mean that every single Administration member would be out of office after the election, even on the odd chance that the Republicans would win after such a debacle.

Now is the perfect time. Impeach him and then hand him over to the international criminal court in The Hague together with Saddam Hussein. Let them be cellmates for the next 50 years.

57. Ok...so do nothing Imajika?

This is a big deal because:

A) It shows the incompetence of a man who claims to be President of the most powerful nation on earth.

B) It shows, despite Bush's reasoning, that Iraq was not a danger. It reveals that they used 9/11 as a pretext to go to war agains the will of the UN. If the American populace would have known the "truth", it would have been against their will as well.

C) It shows the extent this regime will go to manipulate and distort to accomplish political/financial goals even if they are at the expense of "We the people...."

So, Imajika, you can sit there and dismiss every story that shows what a bastard Bush is or you can actually do something about it. What's your choice?

I am an undecided voter as of right now. I will be faxing each of them and telling them if they want my vote in the primary, they have to earn it on this issue.

Whichever candidate takes this information provided by O'Neill and runs with it the hardest gets my vote.

My thought is if you aren't outraged by this and willing to stake your career on it, you don't deserve to be the Democratic Presidential candidate.

27. I made my calls and I wrote this LTTE
Paul O'Neil's Revalations

Bush's reckless distraction to Iraq has endangered America here at home.
According to Paul O'neil ; Bush at a Cabinet meeting 10 days after taking
office was focussed on invading Iraq and Stated "go find me a way to do this" . Invading
Iraq had nothing to do with making America safer let alone 911 . O'neil also cites a
Pentagon document dated 3/5/01 called "Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts".

Yes Clinton Lied and he was impeached because of it . Bush lied too and the sooner
we as American Patriots deal with this Liar the better.

2 percent of our ports are secure . In Iraq our sons and our daughters blood is being
spilt for the profit of a few based on a lie at the cost of 500+ lives 2800+ wounded
and 160 billion tax dollars so far . I'm all for keeping America Safe , but this guy
Bush isn't doing a very good job of it .

I support our Troops, Veterans , The U.S. Constitution, and The American People .
I Shout out loud that Bush is a great deciever and is destroying America ,
he's gutted our Treasury , cut Veterans Benefits , Cut housing/medical benefits to our
Troops and tried to cut their Combat pay . His PATRIOT ACT and The Pre-emptive
war are blatantly Contra Constitutional . The outsourcing of American jobs, and
Rape of Clean Air Standards are not Pro-America . Polluters don't have clean up
their messes anymore . I'd like to know just what is so great about States and Cities
having to pay for toxic waste and pollutant spills cleanup instead of the polluting Companies ?

I am no longer going to sit idly by and watch while our country is highjacked by these wackos. I have been a letter-sending fool, and I will continue.

Thanks for the Congress links!

48. come on
you didn't have to look to deep to see Bush wanted regieme change in Iraq before 9-11. He said it in the presidential debates for gods sake. This will not be as big as people here seem to think.

49. There are some in our country...
usually those on the right, who feel that lying to the Congress and the Amercian people as to the reasons our leaders are taking us into a unilateral invasion of another country isn't a big deal. So what?

I am NOT one of those Americans. I think it is a BIG fucking deal.

And I suspect the families of the 500 soldiers who have died mught think it is a big fucking deal that their loved ones may NOT have had to be there to "protect" our country from an imaginary enemy.

You stand and look straight into the eyes of one of parents or spouses of the dead and you tell them it's okay for our President to LIE about what took their loved one to Iraq.

Come on, I dare you.

And as for the Presidential debates, he SAID that it was time the US stopped acting as an interventionist and he rejected nation building.

Remember that?
