Is there anything positive about H1B's?
I was watching CNN and they were talking about outsourcing jobs. I know that H1B's help make outsourcing possible. The rep for my district, Tom Tancredo, was saying that H1B's should be eliminated. I never thought that I would be inclined to agree with him on anything. Are they just good for outsourcing or, would getting rid of them be like throwing the baby out with the bathwater?

1. I made some good friends with the H1-B program...
The problem isn't that there is an H1-B program. The issue is the over subscription of H1-B visas. Back in IT's heyday (ahhh... the good old days... now, what was I saying?) the computer industry pushed H1-B's because they couldn't find "qualified" workers. I can tell you firsthand there were plenty of "qualified" workers, it was more a matter of flooding the market in a field that actually had demand as to cause downward pressure on wages.

In short (I know, I know, too late) the H1-B program isn't a bad thing per se, it just got abused by some greedy corporations (a shocker isn't it?).

2. L1s are a problem too. The latest scam is that an Indian
company hires a person for a US company and then the US company brings in that Indian person as an "expatriot", a company employee from a foreign country.

And, even if we got rid of these, the companies would just "offshore" the jobs to another country.

3. No but the H22A1 deserves lots of praise.

In fact, it was my favorite until the F20C.

Sometimes when I don't have anything to say but want to bump a thread I'll act like a total ass. See above for example.

Edited: For explanation
