"Not since Julius Caesar..."
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 11:57 PM by professor_pot
Mark Foley, Republican Representative, says this about O'Neill, as reported by the beeb:
"Not since Julius Caesar have I seen such a blatant stab in the back - et tu, Mr O'Neill?"

isn't that rich? allegations of betrayal i mean? the bush cabal has betrayed the whole fucking world time after time, on issue after issue.

1. Bush has betrayed the world . . .
As did Caesar to the Roman Republic.

Maybe Brutus had the right idea . . .

6. at the risk of sounding bombastic, turns out Caesar was the good
guy in that lil drama! recently, i read that it was Caesar who planned to stop the exploiting of the people etc and reduce power of the aristocrats. For this, he was killed. The point was that when the aristocrats get their way too much, serious problems develop (not the least of course an outright dictatorship of Caeser's adopted son; which was hard on many leading roman families!) The only reason i mention this was i was very surprised to read this interpretation of history, and that the 1st Ceasar was intending to bring about something like socialism etc (!)I'd like to learn more about this, and will eventually, but at present, sorry....wish i'd noted the source or reference for it.
It makes sense when you consider most of the interpretation of popular history is done by the upper class, who's sympathy's are never, or rarely, with us plebians!

11. You're right, pretzel4Gore. If J. Caesar had lived, he'd probably have
enacted some FDR-like reforms, in an effort to save the Roman Republic. Maybe he even would have succeeded.

Bush is NO Julius Caesar. Nero, Caligula, and Elagabalus come to
mind.

'Course those doofuses in the Administration can't even remember back 20 years ago, when Rummy was buddying with Saddam Hussein. How can we expect them to "get it right" about historical events 2000 years ago?

2. Caesar ceased to be a problem after that?
What are you complaining about?

He's saying this was a mortal blow!

3. Hah! He compared Bush to a Roman Emperor.
Thats classic. I guess he could have said Judas, but that would have put him in some hot water too, hehehe.

7. Well, thats fine
Shit, so what? He "betrayed" a bunch of evil, power-man assholes hell bent on world domination.
Big fucking deal.
Good for him.

And, using the Caesar reference wasn't too bright...

8. Bush stabbed the American people in the back...
Not only was just about every word from his mouth during the campaign a lie, but he is a warmonger and works mostly for corporations, rather than the people. Although to be fair there is an amount of bipartisanship to the whole deal. A good amount.

19. Poor Caesar
Hi.

Maybe you are or are not aware....but please read the link below

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl-caesar-quote.htm

That is clearly not a quote from Caesar himself for anyone who has done any reading on the fella. He wasn't as bad as people make him out to be, but this sort of language is not his style.

Thanks!

Seth

20. Found it by googling Caesar
It's not my intention to mislead anyone. I had seen it somewhere and did a google search and there it was.

It IS fitting when discussing this administration though.

13. If it is a betrayal then it must be fact.
It would be called "sour grapes" and Lies otherwise. By calling it a betrayal they are admitting that it is true and hurts Bush*.

15. i'd be so easy for B* to discredit - if it's a lie
or doesn't this admin keep copies of their memos, docs etc?

with 19000 pages there'd be plenty of comparing to do.

What and leave evidence around? There will be no memos or documents to foil this cabal. Not by them anyway.
