Rush's 'fans' say loyalty has limits
Posted on Sun, Jan. 11, 2004
Carl Hiaasen

Dear Mr. Limbaugh,

As president-elect of our local Rush Limbaugh Fan Club, I've been deputized
to write this letter regarding your recent legal problems.

Here in Gopher County some of your loyal followers are upset about what
they've been reading and hearing in the media, which (as we all know) is run
by a bunch of liberal pansies (except for your radio show, of course!).

Anyhow, we were all real sorry to learn about you being a dope addict.
Naturally we didn't believe a word of the story until it came from your own
lips.

Seeing how you've been so hard-core against drug users on your radio show --
saying that they ought to be locked up with murderers and rapists -- it
must've been hard on you to sneak around all those years, pretending like
you were some straight-up, sober citizen.

According to Palm Beach prosecutors, in only six months you got about 2,000
painkiller pills from pharmacies in your neighborhood (and that's not
including what you scored on the sly from your maid).

When you do the arithmetic, that works out to at least 11 hits of
opiate-based analgesics a day -- enough to put any lily-livered liberal in
the emergency room, yet it didn't even slow you down!

1. Has he ever acknowledged his hearing loss was due to drug abuse?
Perhaps a minor thing, but it seems obvious from the medical literature that his hearing loss was caused by his drug abuse. Just curious. The man is whacked. No doubt, it's bash O'Neill time today, unless the talking points he gets from Rove have changed.

3. Maybe Rush will be the next Hiaasen novel villian
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 11:18 AM by mouse7
My favorite Hiaasen villian was the guy with the electrolysis scars all over his face with a weedwhacker on the stump of an amputated arm.

Rush could be right there with him. The man who feels no pain.

4. Good
Maybe they'll wake up after this shock to their belief system in the almighty Rush, and be more open to dissenting points of view.

9. For me, it was the concept album "2112"
Apologies. But here in Toronto, I can't read "Rush" without thinking of our local arty, overblown power trio.

10. When did ditto-heads come out of denial?
They still get more upset over a phony legalization of illegal immigrants than over a phony war that killed tens of thousands of people.

Why would Mr. Limbaugh's hypocricy even be a talking point?

11. They didn't - this was not written by a dittohead
I don't believe a dittohead would be capable of writing at this level. The piece drips with sarcasm. Maybe an exdittohead.
