Buchanan on MSNBC now.....re: ONeill, war on Iraq
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 03:06 PM by buycitgo
says ONeill should have WAITED til * is re-elected to release documents, make his accusations

then, idiotic, servile jackass of a host says "Saddam has never been a friend of the US," referencing Clinton/1998 act to get rid of Saddam

Buchanan says ONeill is petty, Bush may not be the smartest apple, but is a very good communicator w/public in general

Says that if Iraq war goes badly, ONeill's words may redound negatively against Bush as election cyce swings around

email msnbc

Did Paul ONeill BETRAY President Bush?

1. If the war goes badly, O'Neill's words may rebound negatively....
I sure hope Pat was kidding, O'Neill must hope very badly that this will reflect poorly on the president. That is the point.

7. yep..I caught it right when he was saying that ONeill shouldn't have......
rocked the boat, basically saying he should have done what most did under Nixon........keep their cakeholes shut

good Germans?

speaking of which, I wonder what John Dean will have to say about this.

his findlaw article way back when pretty much called for articles of impeachment, IIRC

I almost spewed when he said that bit about Saddam never being a friend of the US.

uhhhhhh, who put him in power, jerk?

who gave him about FIVE BILLION dollars worth of equipment/loan guarantees, etc., that helped build up his war machine?

where's that picture of Rumsfeld with Saddam...someone should send him a copy

Wait until after the election? Indeed. All truth needs to wait until after the election.

5. I thought the Iraq Invasion "was" going badly? Did I miss something?
Was Buchanan supporting Bush in this discussion or trashing O'Neill.

Buchanan's starting to sound like Tweety. Says one thing one day, and another the next. His American Conservative Magazine doesn't seem like the person who appears on the Tube.

15. that's pat........xenophobia shining through
I could have written that one for him

never forget his role in highjacking the Reform Party, taking their money, then forgetting to campaign during the selection

had Perot, or his choice, been the RPCandidate, I think things might have been different

sure seems like a Pulitzer lurks out there for some enterprising journalist (are there any left?) who'd be willing to dig into THAT story

10. he was definitely siding with Bush.......BUT
as I was typing, I heard him say that there should be some sort of investo as to why we went into Iraq....not sure exactly what he said, but it's consistent with his opposition to the initial invasion.

didn't realize he was behind that magazine, but they just published a killer article from the very little known (outside DU) heroine, Karen Kwiatkowski.

why isn't SHE all over the news?

she was right there, in the OSP, knows where lots of the bodies are buried

Will Pitt's story posted here yesterday relies in large part on her knowledge, and I think he linked Kwiatkowski's oped, too.

here's her anti-neocon archive

9. "Saddam has never been a friend of the US,"
oh really

not even during the 1980's, when Reagan removed Iraq from the list of terrorist-sponsoring countries, and we began the long business of selling him chemicals and germs, as well as pipeline contracts? In fact, he was a friend all the way up until Gulf War 1 was declared (we even told him we didn't care if he invaded Kuwait!)

Face it, in the context of US/Iraq relations, it was the US who first began the betrayals and deceptions, not Saddam.

Pat, you disappoint me, sir. You have been frequently a voice of reason on the right, why stop now?

11. on to Rick Francona==> National security "expert"
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 02:42 PM by buycitgo
asswipe host refers to ONeill as "this guy!!!"

Francona, military "expert" refers to 1998 Iraqi Liberation Act, saying that the plans have been codified since then, in place since 1991

says this plan is a continuation of war on terrorism

host: did ONeill sell out the pres?

Francona: info should be out there

host: you really believe that (what an ASS!!!!)

Francona: yeah, but I don't know if ONeill was in on the right meetings.

hey! Idiot! he was a PERMANENT member of the National fricking SECURITY council. as such, he had access to more info than almost EVERYbody in the junta, you buffooon?

what kind of an EXpert ARE you?????!!!!!!!!???????

WRT to the scummily worded question re: ONeill betraying Bush:

one email said that the question should have been: did the BUSH REGIME betray the people of the united states!!!!!!!!

the other email displayed said that MORE people should come forth and tell the truth, as this has to do with why we went to war!

19. Buchanan didn't say that.....the most egregious host did
question on now:

WMD search has been scaled back. does this means they're stopping the hunt?

next question:

didn't Saddam represent a danger to us and the ME since before the 1st Gulf War?

Francona: no surprise that Bush was "focused" on getting rid of Saddam; it was part of his platform.

OH YEAH? how come he didn't start talking about it til 2000 and fricking TWO?

and what was it Powell said in early 2001 about Saddam being safely contained, and representing little/no threat??????????????

quit LYING all the time, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

23. MSNBC reporter says this story OVERSHADOWS *'s Mexico trip!
they're showing a clip from 60 minutes right now

they're showing McClellan's response now, saying that ONeill has "no justification for those comments"

it was about 50-50 ONeill's comments vs. WH gainsaying

25. The WH itself seems to be playing fairly cautious
with how they 'answer' O'Neill. This makes me think they realize how bad this could be for them. Probably the Matalin/Hughs/Card faction is steering this now, but inevitably the Rove/Cheney axis will step in it and make it worse. HehHeh.

22. All the reasons...
Buchanan is a Republican who previous posed as an Independent and still clings to the option.

Buchanan worked in the Republican Party and administration.

Buchanan tows the line of the cable propaganda machines who pay him.

26. I asked, "why is the administration suddenly interested in investigations"
with the US Treasury wanting to investigate O'Neill's papers. I said they have a history of stonewalling which is evident with the Wilson investigation and the 9/11 investigation. Why are they suddenly interested in investigations, because they think this one won't make them look bad?
