All Out Stop on O'Neill - US Insp. General Investigating 'Him" not Bush
Treasury Seeks Probe Into Papers Taken by O'Neill
Mon January 12, 2004 03:50 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury has asked the U.S. inspector general's office to investigate how a possibly classified document appeared on Sunday in a televised interview of ex-Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, a department spokesman said on Monday.
"It's based on the (CBS program) '60 Minutes' segment, and I'll be even more clear -- the document as shown on '60 Minutes' that said 'secret,"' Treasury spokesman Rob Nichols told reporters at a weekly briefing.

In a new book about his term as Treasury chief, O'Neill, who left the job in December 2002 in a shake-up of President Bush's economic team, criticized White House policies and provided author Ron Suskind with thousands of administration documents.

While Nichols said it is customary for departing officials to take documents when they leave, this probe will focus on how possibly classified information appeared on a television interview as one of O'Neill's papers.

2. Somewhere I read
that O'Neill described himself as old and rich and wasn't worried about the Bushistas.

He should start worrying right about now.

And stay off small airplanes, all planes in fact.

3.  yesterday I posted that I "trusted" that document was declassified
This must be a real threat to the Bushistas. They are forced to fake an interest in law and order.

12. Funny how Plame's secrecy isn't as important, ain't it??????
Well, er, no. Mr. Rove indicated that Plame's secret assignment really wasn't and she was fair game...

What fucking planet was the playground on where George learned the rules of fair play?

20. How does one say "The truth is transparent" in French?
The europeans are going to have a merry time with this.

With any luck the lap dog Blair will be sent to the Isle of Mann where no one will notice his tail is tucked between his legs.

And just how does an American ambassador approach a French, German, Belgian, or Luxembourgan (sp?) except with the appeal from a bowed posture "Do you have any of those nice choc-o-lats, kind sir?

Screw impeachment, it'll be over by November. Let's go right to felony charges.

In another world in another time maybe just maybe but this is the fascist government of America we are talking about and I don't see them doing anything but relaxing in their hammocks and drinking Mint Julips and chuckling at the stupid Americans that made them so filthy rich.

10. Bad move by Treasury
No matter if O'Neil did or did not expose classified documents, this is going to look vindictive. There is no way the bushites can put a good spin on this.

I also saw Bush* in the Q & A segment of the News Conference with President Fox. He was sooooooo careful not to badmouth O'Neil. Instead, he used terra, terra, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11.

Think he'd better tell treasury to back off........this will make O'Neil both a hero and a martyr.

And all the wingnuts won't see any inconsistency there at all.

Wow, wouldn't it be nice to be that stupid? Ignorance really is bliss.

23. With the number of documents Bush/Cheney classifies it could
take a bit of time. They have to locate the original, destroy it, doctor a replacement, account for the original document's declassification, and then destroy those records and re-insert into the database the altered document.

Even with Total Information Awareness, this takes time, and they learned from the mistake of the Niger yellowcake that you really can't fool some of the people event a bit of the time.

This will do wonders to raise the profile of O'Neil's book/accusations. Is it too much to hope that they would try to stop distribution of the book?

27. Is it possible that this was a strategy by the author and O'Neill?
Suskind knows better than to use a "secret" document. If this was their plan to rile the cabal...it worked like a charm...the book hit number 1...the cabal has their undies in a knot...and time will tell who gets bitch slapped.
