Cheney - "It's our due."
When discussing more tax cuts for the wealthy, O'Neill says that Cheney said that Reagan proved that Americans don't care about deficits. "It's our due."

In the last 24 hours, everytime I think of those words, I get angrier and angrier. What exactly does Dick think is his due and who is the "our" that he is talking about? Wealthy people? Corporate executives? Is this their reward for winning the mid-term elections?

1. They wanted to get what they had paid for
with their campaign contributions. The super-rich.

Nothing we didn't already know, this preposterous sense of entitlement they have. But it's another thing to hear it come directly out of their mouths.

:grr:

3. Yeah, I know what you mean
I can't do it anymore. I can't listen to it anymore. If this story doesn't have legs then I'm afraid they'll have their way from here on in. They'll do all the damage they can do and our children will just have to pick up the pieces if a few decades.
On a happier note, I started a job today after fourteen months of unemployment. I'm making fifty percent of what I was formerly earning and I feel lucky.

15. Hey, friend
I have been unemployed for 13 months, so rub some of that on me, please!

I know how you feel. All my interviews were for jobs that would pay me 1/2 of what I made. But I won't give up. Unemployment checks are gone now.

Good luck.

6. A bit of Truth?
Cheney-- "Americans don't care about deficits" Thanks to Raygun.

In the mid 70's, America had just gone through the first stage of Peak Oil; America herself had pumped nearly half of it's known reserves in the 70's.

Gas, if you are too young to recall, was hard to get and expensive when you could get your limit of 5 or 10 gallons at a time.

America was shocked. As shocked as Sept 12, 2001? Something to consider....

Out went Carter -- after 444 days of Americans being held hostage in Iran, and in his place came "Morning in America".

Maybe America knew the end was near. Maybe deficits are like running up the credit card with the full knowledge "Someone else is gonna pay, not me!"

14. Don't Forget Arms-for-Hostages
> Out went Carter -- after 444 days of Americans being held hostage in
> Iran,

with a bunch of creepy Rethuglicans making arms-for-hostages deals
to make sure that the hostages came home when Reagan was in office,
and not one moment sooner.

Remember Them?

17. Ohh yeah.
They were put on a plane just as Raygun was being impeached... no.. I mean inagurated.

Funny how that happened, eh?

The bad guys in Iran, waited to release our boys until someone they could really do business with took power in the U.$. and not a minute sooner.

11. Well at least we know for sure...
...that they are not in denial about what they are and what they are doing. They knew from the get-go who would benefit from these tax cuts and only spouted the bullcrap about it stimulating the economy for their own purposes. The people who are in denial would be the suckered middle- and working-class people who support them because of their purported "morality," who believe in liberal-biased media, etc.

What's REALLY unfortunate is that the true windfall of giving away pretty much every last drop (and more) of the PEOPLE'S money to their cronies -- i.e., a severe recession -- will probably not occur until after Bush is gone.... then they'll blame it on the Dems.

Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 09:49 PM by Cat Atomic
He basically said they were justified in looting the country and rewarding themselves with huge cash payoffs. It's absolutely sick- much more damning than the "blind man in a room full of deaf people" thing.

22. Someone had to explain that "blind man" comment to me.
I don't know why they're making such a big deal out of it. The fact that Cheney thinks ripping off the country is "his due" is much more hideous.

"corroborating evidence" to what O'Neill gave him. O'Neill also has lots of documents and takes copious notes.
