O'Neill on the Today show
The document shown on '60 Minutes' was a cover letter that had been cleared by the general counsel of the Treasury Dept and that the secret documents that had been attached had been removed. He said that as head of Treasury he would have asked for an investigation himself. He said they gave him several CD's that he turned over to Suskind without reviewing. He said that this was Suskind's book and that if he had written a book only about 25 copies (to extended family) would have been sold. He reiterated that he has no financial interest in the book.

He also said that the policy of regime change was inherited from the previous administration .

He went on to say that he supported the first and second tax cuts but was against the third as it threatened the stability of Social Security and the healthcare systems. He projected 6% growth in the third quarter of 2003 without the third cut but that the additional 2.2% of growth was attributal to the third cut but questioned at what cost. He said that Soc. Security and the nation's healthcare system are in desperate need of being sured up.

He said that he planned on voting for Bush in 2004 as he had seen no other viable alternative/candidate.

1. Shows his judgement of leadership
In his own words Bush was a blind man in a room of the deaf. So now he is going to vote for him so we can have more of this?

Spare me. We have devolved to a culture of spineless, ethicless morons if we continue to let people of such low character rise to positions of power.

4. He said he regretted the "blindman" statement as it was "red meat"
and distracted form the book in its entirety.

5. He liked his tax cut!
Here's more about Bush's plans for Iraq.........

Enter Saddam Hussein

<SNIP>

A little background is necessary: In June of 1997 a group of former republican administration officials launched The Project for the New American Century, a think tank offering research and analysis on a “revolution” in modern military methods and military objectives. Like the energy task force, the passionate neo-conservative authors endowed their Principles with hard-hitting force, calling for the necessity of “preserving and extending an international order friendly” to America’s “security, prosperity and principles.” The founders wrote: “The history of the 20th Century should have taught us that it is important to shape circumstances before crises emerge and to meet threats before they become dire.” In fact, on pages 51 and 67 of the institution’s intellectual centerpiece, Rebuilding America’s Defenses, the authors lament that the process of transforming the military would most likely be a long one, “absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event—like a new Pearl Harbor.” (How unfortunate for Americans, they got their needed event on September 11, 2001.)

The signers to the “principles” read like a who’s who of the Bush administration plus a chorus line of supporters: Dick Cheney, I. Lewis Libby, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Elliott Abrams, plus world famous: William Bennett, Jeb Bush, and Dan Quayle, among others.

The signers endorsed two other dynamic enabling policies: increased military spending, and the necessity of challenging “regimes hostile to America’s interests and values.”

The seventy-six-page Rebuilding America’s Defenses was published in 2000. With a lot of expositional swagger, the authors created not only the ideal military preparedness level for their goal of global domination, but they identified a new kind of warfare that requires far less “force” than the military was accustomed to accept. What’s more, they identified the “hostile regimes” mentioned in the “Principles” to be none other than Iraq, North Korea, Iran and Syria.

2. I sensed he was backtracking
Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 08:59 AM by Ilsa
to minimize the impact of his book. He repeated himself that the segments about Bush being a blind man in a room full of deaf people was taken out of context ("read the book"). I felt like the Iraq invasion disclaimer, inheriting it from the Clintons, etc., was CYA backtracking.

I threw up my breakfast when he endorsed Too Stupid for president. He said he'd probably vote for him again. :puke:

7. Yeah I thought he was trying to come off as reasonable
By that I mean not into "Gotcha" politics and that he was interested more in the economy and the normal ways that policy is determined. He does seem to be very measured and said that he wants a fuller discussion of issues but realizes that most people and the media don't have time for that.

I am going at lunch to get the book.

9. There's no doubt in my mind that the republithugs got to him
Sure, they've threatened an investigation. There's not a doubt in my mind they've made much more serious threats to him than that, though.

There is NOTHING these brownshirts won't do to seize and keep power.

10. He definitely was backtracking
and even looked surprised that anyone could be so upset with his words. What's up with this guy. I'm beginning to wonder if he really is a boob. He went on to say this is "Ron Suskind's book, not mine." What the hell is he thinking? It wouldn't be a book if he hadn't divulged all the info?

Then he went on to say he would "probably" vote for Bush again as he saw no other "viable" candidates. :eyes:

Geezee...I give up trying to understand these ditto heads.
