Re:O'Neill "Will it matter?" CNN& MSNBC almost simultaneously last night

The myth of a "liberal media" should now officially be dead.

Aaron Brown (get out your whore bashing sticks) and Brian Williams almost simultaneously asked David Gergen the same question last night (MSNBC was on tape).

"Will it matter? Will anyone's vote be changed by this?"

Brown had lead off his broadcast with the same question and mentioned that we are so polarized politically as a nation that he wasn't sure ;-) that anyone's vote would be changed. After he had Gergen on I flipped over to MSNBC (which I rarely watch) and saw a tape of Williams asking the above quoted almost verbatim.

Gergan answer was the same to both. No and the White House started very shrewdly by ignoring the story (ABC said on WNT that that seemed to be the strategy) but messed up when the launched the investigation into what we now know was only a cover letter appearing on '60 Minutes'. He did say that Dems would have documented evidence for the debates (what ever form they take ;-) ) and for ads.

I used to like Brown as I thought his show was a measured (for American media) review of the day's events but this was IMHO an attempt to poo-poo the story away. He and Williams seem to buy into and thus sell this idea that the swing voter is dead and that getting the bases to the polls is the best strategy for Nov.2004. I have always had a suspicion of this at it makes no sense, why would you limit the number of voters for yourself? I smell a planted topic of discussion/strategy from the right either to lure the Dems into it or to............................TELL THOSE NOT FIRMLY ON THE LEFT OR RIGHT TO STAY HOME (a built in rainy day for the Repubes).

This is the sad part. To them, it is all a game. It used to be that journalist acted as protectors of the constitution by being the only ones who would go after clearly improper and illegal acts. They don't do that anymore because very few of them are journalists. They are all entertainers. There are a few print journalists who try to carry out their duties correctly, but the ones who get the attention are the TV people. Look at the change over the past 10 years alone. You have a bunch of attractive mouths in front of a microphone that have no concept of journalism.

2. Missed that segment

but did catch the interview with the journalist from The New Yorker Magazine (sorry can't remember his name) who wrote the article on how the Bush* Administration views the press in general. Brown kept asking the question "How does this make them any different from any other administration?" The impact of the story was completely marginalized by the way Brown shaped the question.

I, too, used to like Aaron Brown. However, I suspect that he is trying to improve his lowly standing within the CNN organization by leaning farther to the right.

On todays NPR"BBC hour" he is interviewed and basically confirms O'Neill and suggests a Bush violation of the oath of office,

6. Saw the Brian Williams Interview

With Gergen. Suprisingly, I thought it was good. Gergen seemed to say that O'Neil was a good guy and was very honest. Brian Williams seemed to be asking good questions. On the other hand, I am comparing this segment with those of the day from CNN, MSRNC and ABC (WNT). The media has left us behind.
