Rowland Turns Up The Heat

By JON LENDER, EDMUND H. MAHONY And ELIZABETH HAMILTON
Courant Staff Writers

January 13 2004

Gov. John G. Rowland and his allies have been putting the heat on politicians of both parties to head off the governor's ouster, warning legislators that their own shortcomings could be made public, sources say.

In one case, Rowland's office tried to get a list of a congressman's financial backers in what some see as an attempt to apply pressure.

In recent private discussions aimed at saving his job, Rowland has pointedly suggested to state legislators that impeaching him could turn ugly for them, too, by shining a light on any of their own irregularities and improprieties.

The bluntness of these suggestions has some of his listeners, even fellow Republicans, saying privately they considered those comments to be veiled threats. The message some heard was, for example, that if they move to impeach Rowland for accepting improper favors, they might find themselves being called by news reporters about favors and gifts they themselves had accepted.

7. The Republicans might feel more secure if
they remembered that the press turned to their peccadillos after Clinton proved so barren of criminal action.

Rowland's closet is full of real skeletons as opposed to trumped up trivialities.

Now do they feel better?

11. yes, big skeletons
Rowland is the one where his ex-wife called the police on him, and when the press tried to get details of the arrest, a Friend of Rowland in the police department refused to release the police report - even though, rumor has it, that he either threw his ex-wife down a flight of stairs or slapped her around, or both.

14. That's the talk of the state
there were also rumors that he got a cabinet member pregnant. I cannot substantiate that but i do know that everyone I know wouldn't put it past him

12. Remember...Rowland was a Bush rising star
He was supposed to "go places" in the GOP. He is still the chairman of the Bush campaign in Connecticut, but the campaign organizers are now saying they don't know if he will even be invited to the state convention, according to news reports here. He was also best buds with Kenny Boy "enjoying your Mom's pension from the Caymans" Lay, and gave Enron $230,000,000 in funds from the CT waste resource recovery athority...gone forever, but not before Lay threw Rowland a big, expensive party to thank him. Then...the bottom dropped out. That was even before the last election, but I bet the Bushies vetting Rowland found this dirt on him a long long time ago. After talk of him taking cabinet positions, a la Tom Ridge, suddenly he was dropped from the team's prospects with no explanation.

Now we know.

Weird though...a little hot tub and a few hundred million in state contracts seems almost quaint compared to what his not-to-be boss has gotten us into.

13. And F. MSNBC!
They did a quick piece on how people want him to retire, and ODDLY ENOUGH "forgot" to mention what his party affiliation was. I knew IMMEDIATELY that he HAD to be a republiKKKan. Otherwise, they would have said to the affect of: "WHAT A LYING SACK OF CRAP DEMOCRAT COMMIE PINKO HOMO-LOVER SCUMBAG, DID WE MENTION DEMOCRAT 920 TIMES?" So...SCREW YOU HARD MSNBC, SHOW BIAS MUCH?!?!?!?!!?

Lu Cifer

PS Hey MFNBC, how's those pathetic Imus in the Boring ratings?!?! HA HA!
