Is Bush loosing the south over immigration?
I have not heard ONE supporter on the local programs here. They are furious with Bush on this issue. Its the ONLY thing the callers are bringing up...no war, no gays, no O'Neill..nothing but immigration.

I'm in Little Rock, AR. Is anyone else in the south hearing or seeing the same pattern?

1. Hey may piss them off, but who are they going to vote for?
I don't see a Bush challenger on the horizon and its getting pretty much too late. Clearly they aren't going to vote DEM, so, the only thing we can hope for is it causes some to stay home on election day.

And given their hate for DEMS, I don't see that happening either...

2. Bingo...

Bush knows that the right is a bunch of chickenshit Stepford Wives that will do anything Bush tells them to.

5. Right! As mad as they are at him, they still care more about the
religious issues. Hence, the "bible belt". If Clark wins the nomination he might be able to take 1 maybe 2 states but we won't know until election night.

3. it`s just not the south
it`s all over the country. white men and women are pissed about this. the other thing that may set them off is the out sourcing of call centers to india..just how safe is your banking accounts when they go thru India? how much info do you want to give to a another country with really lax law enforcement-

4. the south
i think Bush has underestimated his base's hatred of hispanic immigrants. He's long harnessed that hatred to his benefit, but he may find that once he has turned on that beast it will devour him. It is undeniable that this was a complete failure for Bush. And that's good for us.

Of course, this means the Right just stays at home a little bit more. Bush has become such a part of the DNA of Rightwingers that failures don't really mean anything. In fact, continued failure for Bush only makes him cling that much more to the "embattled" caraciture he has so mastered.

6. Not just in the south...
I'm suddenly hearing the same thing from * voters in California.

Case in point (and this is just one): My eldest sister (semi-born-again Christian who lives in a totally Repukoid rural area of southeastern Calif.), has pretty much blown off all my concerns about the BFEE for the past three years. A week or so ago, we spoke on the phone, and she asked my opinion (something she never does) about *'s immigration plan.

Don't worry -- I was calm and reasonable. LOL

The point: After everything else falling on deaf ears with her, the one thing that woke her up was the immigration issue. She is not going to vote for * again this year -- and we had a good, solid discussion of the assets and liabilities of all the '04 Dem candidates -- whom, she said, she will be watching "very closely" throughout the year in order to choose the right one!

Trust me, this is an amazing development. We're talking about a 50-something-year-old woman who has never displayed any interest whatsoever in politics, politicians, or how what goes on in D.C. affects anyone's day-to-day life.

And it's characteristic of more than a few convos I've had with former * voters and true diehard Repukes.

They won't listen to any concerns about Iraq, or the economy -- instead, the meme seems to be: "It's the illegal immigration, stupid!"

7. Michael Savage yesterday
was asking where are the unions? where are all the pro-labor democrats????

He was totally focused on: allowing in 'illegal immigrants' will LOWER WAGES. He even wanted democratic and union help.

8. Same here in Upstate S.C.
My son listens to local, talk radio in the morning and had expected to hear opinions about O'Neill today, but they want to talk about nothing but the immigration story. They are absolutely livid over it. There are many other issues here – high unemployment, especially, but immigration trumps everything.
