Do you mind being on a government blacklist?
Is anyone here concerned about CAPPS II? Seems to me like a great way to shut down a free and open society. Please take action on this and send it to everyone you know:

Despite strong opposition from airlines, privacy advocates and Members of Congress, the Bush Administration is pushing ahead with plans to implement a computerized airline passenger profiling program that would -- without making us any safer -- create secret blacklists of innocent people prevented from flying.

This new profiling system would use giant databases of personal information and secret intelligence information to perform a background check on any person who wishes to fly. Innocent people misidentified as terrorists could be barred from flying with no way of clearing their names.

This system will not only create a false sense of security since terrorists will easily circumvent its basic protections, it will also compile private information about you and your family. Airlines have refused to participate in the program, but the Bush Administration is planning to mandate their involvement.

Take Action! Urge your Members of Congress to oppose this dangerous program.

2) Send us feedback you receive from Members of Congress

Finally, please remember to send us any letters you receive from your Members of Congress in response to ACLU action alerts. These can often help our lobbying efforts by providing important intelligence about the positions being taken by Members of Congress. You can email letters to field@dcaclu.org or snail mail to:

Washington, DC 20005

THANK YOU

1. Yes, this does concern me.
It seems to delve very deeply into our lives, not to mention the inconvenience in airports, while making us only little, if at all, safer.

2. If they plan to do this, they had better
have a way for people to "check their status" BEFORE they haul all their shit to the airport, stand in line, get searched...and THEN find out they are a "no go".. Tickets these days are mostly non-refundable, people have precious little vacation time, and it seems downright nasty to have people wait in line not knowing that they might be on some secret list, and they might miss out on their vacation..

What happens if Dad shows up on the no-fly list? Do Mom and the kids have to go without him, or will the whole family get their tickets and advance vacation payment re-imbursed??

This thing stinks :(

If they want a national ID card, then they should just bite the bullet and DO IT..

I have long thought that every citizen should have a passport.. With a passport, none of this nonsense would be necessary..

4. They already have "don't fly" lists...
and they're not working very well.

Heard something on the radio about a woman with the same name as a "suspected" terrorist who can't fly, and she's been bumped off of flights.

She now has a certified copy of a letter from Homeland Security that says she is NOT the suspected terrorist and she should be allowed to board.

Is this what we have to look forward to?
