Media Bias Dan Rather and Brent Bozell
Has anybody heard this story? Apparently Brent Bozell offered Dan Rather $1 Million to the charity of his choice as a wager, if he reciprocated. They would bet on whether or not an independent media analyst could prove liberal media bias. Rather turned him down, last I heard (possibly hes familiar with the concept of a Kangaroo Court), but Bill Bennett is apparently angling to get a piece of that action.

Actually, though, this is par for the course. I predict that there will be a lot of generalized noise about liberal media this year. That has two effects; any positive story about the Democratic Candidate(s) will be written off as an example of Media Bias. And such stories will be a bit rarer, because editors will want to avoid any appearance of liberal bias (while being pretty ok with conservative media bias).

There are plenty of facts to refute the media bias yarn, but it's become so prevelent it is hard to get through to people.

1. I'm beginning to read "fear of critics of liberal bias" as bull - they're
just right wing GOP controlled via the paycheck.

There is no shame - and no fear of any criticism that will not affect the checkbook.

2. How can you "prove" bias?
It's impossible. In any case, most independent media researchers believe that the bias in the media is actually pro-corporate ("center-right", if you will), not liberal.

I'm sure Bozell's "independent" analysts would consist of AIM and MRC staffers.

5. The right wing media says they themselves are liberal

It's sickly brilliant the way the right wing media have tricked the American people.

Too bad the right controls almost the entire message that Americans get.
