Just got what I think is a politcal message from Petco.com (pro Bush) |
|
Dear Robert, Recently, President Bush implemented a new law to help guard individuals against spam email. At this time, we would like to reiterate our policy and practice concerning email messages.
Our company privacy policy states we do NOT send email to any individual without their permission. Therefore, we follow a procedure which requires that individuals sign up for our email newsletter programs to ensure that our customers will not receive any unwanted email from PETCO.com.
At one time, this email address (----------@yahoo.com) was opted-in to receive special email newsletters and announcements by subscribing either via PETCO.com or via a PETCO P.A.L.S. application in one of our stores.
As we want to ensure no one ever receives PETCO.com emails in error, please click the button below to verify that you do wish to continue to receive emails and updates from PETCO.com with pet care and behavior tips, special offers and more.

Could be... Certainly no reason to include "pResident Bush" |
|
in the statement about spam mail laws.
On the other hand, it could just be an employee with rather poor and unsophisticated writing skills.....

I don't believe they have to say Bush in them |
|
they should be politically neutral. Congress had a play in this too.

do you want them to explain how the entire process works in this e-mail? Bush is the president, like it or not, and sadly we have to live with it. If it was Clinton, would the same e-mail be pro-Clinton?

why is it pro-Bush /pResident to say that he signed the law, when he did?
on edit: make believe you are neutral on Bush, or, make believe Clark is president. Still think that Petco is the biased one?

2. I don't think that's pro Bush |
|
I think it's just about spam. They may be trying to make themselves sound patriotic, but that's probably it. They want Democratic dollars, too.

3. Incorrect grammar, as in "an individual" is not a "their." n/t |

as one of my grammar books state regarding the use of their with a singular verb: "Purists may become apoplectic upon reading this, but the construction is almost universal in educated speech and increasingly common in writing." I think his/her is awkward. The best solution is to recast the sentence.
