but I'm getting used to the way they handle these polls.
I'm surprised choice #2 doesn't just say "The world is actually in worse condition, because Saddam was a great man and we miss him so"

18. I gotta agree with you about these polls... |
|
These polls are totally asinine in that you are essentially "stuck" with their options. "The world is in worse shape and Saddam should have stayed in power"? What the hell kind of misleading option is that? The world is most certainly in worse shape (99% of the globe is pissed at us, our credibility is shot, etc.), but there is no way I think Saddam should have stayed in power. The problem is, it was not our decision to make, but BushCo made it in America's name anyway.
CNN has a poll as well: "Should we send a man to Mars?" The answers are yes and no, which is why I didn't vote; there was no "Yes, but only if Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, O'Reilly, Coulter, Thomas, etc. are the ones sent."

|
that is why it is worded the way it is. This way, it plays on your emotions as opposed to what one might truly answer. It is a sad poll, but then again, it was put up by some sad people.

They should have worded the first response as follows:
"The world is actually in worse condition because of the anger and resentment that has been stirred up due to the U.S. invasion and continuing occupation of a sovereign nation based on the flimsiest of "evidence" which has since been refuted."

wouldn't you say?
To say the world is worse off also requires you to claim you want Saddam back in power
To say the US was right to invade to hold Saddam accountable to UN resolutins means you have to ignore that Saddam was complying (however grudgeingly) and that the US ignored the UN to enforce those resolutions more to it's liking.
The last one is apathetic.
i mean, whats even he point of polling? al the answers are slanted to get a particular end.
Oh wait, silly me. This is from the senate republicans. No wonder...

45. Gee, two questions in one, how professional! |
|
"The world is actually in worse condition, and Saddam should still be in power because the U.S. acted rashly."
Um, that would be two separate questions I think.
I mean, everyone knows these online polls aren't scientific (like any polls ARE--you couldn't possibly HAVE such a thing as a "Democratic pollster" or a "Republican pollster" if there were such a thing as "scientific" polling). But still, there are at least SOME standards to how this sort of thing is done. And including TWO questions in the same item is rather a glaringly obvious no-no type way to try to skew your results.
How amusing that in spite of that it's still coming in 58% against the invasion.

50. LOL nice leading answer; "Saddam *should* still be in power" |
|
well i sure think the US acted rashly.
Obviously that's not the reason why Saddam "should" still be in power. It's just that if the US would not have acted rashly, the inevitable consequence would be that Saddam would still be in power. That's the lesser of two evils - but it's not the goal. The goal would be not to have the US act rashly.
Having regrets about putting Saddam in power in the first place? Regime change in Iraq? Maybe, but not at any cost.

55. This Poll Is Being Manipulatd on the Back End |
|
If you follow this thread, where people report the results at the ime of their votes, you'll see that there is a sudden flip between the "worse off" and "no different" numbers. Curiously, I observe this morning, that the order of the answers has changed in the poll question. "Worse off" is now where "no different" is and vice versa. Other DUers who took the poll during the day yesterday can confirm this.
They've switched the order of the questions but not the underlying, corresponding data. It's a complete and total shame. Apparently, the congressional repukes treat polls the same way they treat ballots.
