Is the war on terra just another form of mutually assured destruction?
The more I think about it I cant begin to see how we could 'win' the war on terror. Not in the way that Bush thinks. I think our focus should be on intelligence gathering. I think if we keep up the preemptive wars, the patience of the rest of the world will wear thin. News of PNAC is far more widespread in the rest of the world. They know what we're up to. Will they allow it? What if they don't? Then what? WW3?
And I do mean the all-out 'nook-yoo-lar' kind! And if not that, I think the further we push our way into the world, the stronger the resistance will be. The Draft would be a necessity to replenish the enormous number of casualties....ok, I'll stop now.

1. it was supposed to just be a metaphor
And then DimWit, our national disgrace, forgot that and made it into a real war.

What happens when you have a moran in the WH.

2. I would also like to add
That I think the "war on terror" is stupid. Everytime I hear somebody say it, I think, "You bought into that line of republican propaganda?"

Someday (soon) we will have a Democratic president who will straighten out this nonsense.

Yes, an intensive intelligence effort is the answer. The very idea of bombing countries over a war on terrorism is so absurd.

3. Yes, sort of
The War on Terrorism is just a replacement for the USSR. It gives the Pentagon and its suppliers an excuse to rape the treasury for TRILLIONS of dollars. The defense contracts and the Pentagon are intermixed (revolving door), inseparable, and they truly run the country.

We have to have enemies, and we have to have wars. We have to feed the machine. They're dead-serious about this, so you can be assured that we'll always have an al Qaeda, or a Soviet menace, or dangerous drug dealers against whom we'll need to use the military. If they don't have a fake enemy to fight, they'll just come after US citizens in the name of....whatever, they'll come up with something. The beast must and will be fed.

I'd refer you to Bill Moyers, Noam Chomsky, and Gore Vidal if you want to do some enlightening reading/viewing on this topic.

6. I understand that
And I've read Chomsky and Vidal and I watch Moyers on a regular basis.

But that doesn't mean I buy into it that it's the way it has to be.

But thanks for the referrals anyway.

4. It always reminds me of '1984' and the constant state of war
How BB is here to protect us from the 'evildoers' that hate Oceania because it is free. So Oceania is always at war for reasons that always change.

5. It has to be
We are being driven towards a state of permanent war to justify martial law at home and the rule of force abroad. These thugs believe the ends justify the means.
Period.
