Imus: "The wheels are coming off of the world" |
|
This morning on MSNBC's "Imus In The Morning" there was a nice little snapshot of the total lack of logic surrounding the 2004 election.
After a quick rundown of the Democratic candidates Imus declared "It doesn't matter anyway, I'm voting for President Bush."
Immediately after this he launched into a rant about Bush's proposed Moon & Mars program and its timing, given our current challenges, shouting "This is absurd! Doesn't anybody know the wheels are coming off of the world?"
I assume he believes that voting for Bush will put the wheels back on the world. This is what we're up against...NOT voters who can clearly articulate what Bush has done for this country, how the average American has reaped the benefit, why he should have four more years. We're up against guys like Don Imus, who say "I'm voting for him" but who also understand that his policies are a few slices shy of a loaf. The "I'm voting for him just because" factor. The sad fact that with so much backlash against Bush right now, people who are open about their attention to vote for him might be considered a "rebel" or a "maverick"...in their minds, anyway.
He also played a feeble little pre-recorded "satire" of Ted Kennedy's speech yesterday, a cheap shot that doesn't warrant repeating here. Imus sat sulking under his cowboy hat, as is his custom, while the "comedy bit" played. Just ignore everything and vote Bush / Cheney for 2004. Put the wheels back on the world. Good job, Don. Rush has nothing on you.
The one bright spot was Senator Joseph Biden's appearance and his assertion that Karl Rove, in "real life," isn't "as smart as he's given credit for." He claimed that Rove was present in many meetings he had attended at the White House, that he "sat in the back of the room by the desk," and concluded with an invitation: "Hey, Karl, the next time, come over and say hello."

Alright, the tide is turned when a member of the DC elite thinks it's finally ok to tell the truth about Rove. Rove is really nothing more than a big fat bully, with George has his very vindictive sidekick.

3. People on here don't want to face facts about that thinking.... |
|
There are a ton of people out there who feel the very same way. That the wheels are coming off the world, that a lot of it is due to this current misadministration. But that these same people are still going to vote for bush.
All this talk of "conversions" is a load. All this talk of "true conservatives hating bush*" is a load.
Both of those things may exist but a million times I will continue saying that there is a huge, gaping chasm of a leap between not liking * and not voting for him or voting for the democratic candidate.
We can put our heads in the sand as much as we want about this but it's true. I don't claim to understand the thinking but the denial that it exists is going to cost us dearly.

You'll be accused of all kinds of stuff if you say things like that.
For the record I agree. Fear is Bush's most powerful ally. There's lots of fear to go around. The Democratic establishment is not willing or able to make people see the reason for their fear is Bush. Until they do, they WILL lose.

if anyone had to some up in one word what the Bush administration has given us 24/7 it is FEAR. It doesn't matter what side you are on or what blame you assign to them. The "malaise" of our time is fear, and unlike Jimmy Carter it is blatantly squawked at us daily to increase it one way or the other without so much as a whimper of focused protest from the people who raged against "malaise".
What hurt Carter was a slump, no glory and general discontent of one type or another. Today we have fear, fear, fear for life liberty, jobs, health, the future, security- you name it. I have never felt my life personally threatened except during the Bush administrations.
You could ask why but you can't escape the association.

7. Biden was pretty solid |
|
IMO. He also was also careful to not knock any of the candidates, even mentioning that Dean represented not the anger of Democrats, but the "strength". He was not endorsing Dean, and made it a point to say that - but he just mentioned that the Democrats want a fighter.
