Holy Back-tracking Batman!
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 10:22 AM by Smirky McChimpster
just finished Fresh Air from yesterday.
http://freshair.npr.org/day_fa.jhtml?todayDate=archive

Paul was mentioning all the republican talking points.
It seemed that Paul would state the Bush-case and then Ron would jump in with the Paul-case. It was weird. (definitely like the Godfather)
I would not be surprised if Rove threatened his life.

Terry gave him MANY opportunities to get out the facts to the American people and Paul declined.

For example (not a direct quote)

Terry: "Would you say that Rove was influential in tax cut policy making?"

Paul: 10 second long pause

Paul: (in a quiet voice) You'll have to ask the president that.

1. Even with the Back-Tracking
The theme that Rove and his political wing had more power over the Policy wing and thus power over GW made itself known.

That information should be damaging to those whom did not know this.

O'Neill still is a Republican so the talking points don't surprise me at all.

2. My thoughts exactly
I felt sorry for Suskind - he kept trying to prop O'Neil up - I finally had to turn it off, I could not stand O'Neil's grovelly any longer.

3. Probably explainable
I don't know if you can access the editorial page of the AZ Daily Star online but My View by David Fitzsimmons explains it. The final panel says "O'Neill in retirement is like watching a dead man in a room full of Bush people"! And everyone here still maintains that Ross Perot was nuts because he dropped out for time due to threats and we know that the Bush family aren't like that.

:tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat:

OK, that's the first time I've seen those two ideas put together.

5. their interviews may not be great TV...but the book is a must read.
It's selling like mad....wonder what 41 thinks of it...since O'neill says nice things about him in the book.

6. O'neill unwilling to provide interpretation, but is steadfast on the facts
And those facts are not pretty: Bush* is a puppet, From the first NSC meeting the agenda was set on Iraq, economic policy was driven by political payback rather than economic interests, etc. O'neill isn't backtracking on any of that.

It may not be popular on DU but I think his approach will be at least as effective with the general public. I know lots of people who don't like Michael Moore, for example, because they think he's a meanie.
