Minnesota Senate Chooses New Majority Leader...
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 10:36 AM by Shanneee
Not sure if any of you are up on your Minnesota politics, but yesterday I saw that the Mn. Senate got rid of Ultra liberal John Hottinger as their Majority Leader and took Dean Johnson (very conservative ex-republican from rural MN).

Although I thought that this move might be coming, I had no clue that they would go to such extremes from one of the most liberal members to one of the most conservative.

At first it really bothered me. I mean...what a way to tear the party apart...but after looking at thier comments including that of my hometown Senator, Tomassoni, it made me realize just how "at peace" everyone is with this change...INCLUDING Hottinger.

It's about time that our Dems got some balls and started making a few changes! What do you guys think about all this?

1. and Johnson used to be a Republican!
But that's OK.
He seems fairly sensible.
I don't think he switched after putting his finger up to gauge the wind direction.....
unlike little Normie Coleman, who actually DOES need a weather man to tell which way the wind is blowing.
Hottinger is OK, but he got battered pretty badly in the last session....

2. Yeah he did...
I did an internship for an Iron Range Senator and heard some pretty insane things. Sen. Bakk from Cook, Mn. got so disgruntled that he walked out of the caucus and said he wasn't coming back.

I wonder if his plans are changing now...

Too bad, Hottinger really was a great guy, but I hope Dean can keep the party a little more united.

3. I agree
I liked Hottinger.
Johnson is quite moderate, but sensible (funny that we have to qualify that, eh?).

The good guys only hold a 2-seat majority in the senate.
