New Rules - GD Primary 2004 |
|
I think the new rule, about needing to have 250 posts in order to post in that forum is really bad.
First off, I have been a member of the DU for several months, I have never flamed, nor have I had any warnings or posts removed. In fact, I remember a while back, there was a post talking about flames, which mentioned that most people who receive warnings and have posts removed, had over a thousand posts.
Shouldn't the length of time that someone has been here, without warnings, removed posts ect, be more important than quantity? I think this new rule is grossly unfair and unfortunate.

1. I have not frequented that forum... |

But I can understand the theory behind the 250 post rule. There have been a lot of trolls around lately, joining just so they can flame someone or disparage a candidate. So, while I can appreciate your situation, I agree with the Mods. Good rule.

I agree with trying to fight off the trolls. I have seen posts here, that have the obvious objective of starting flame wars.
But why should I be punished? I have registered here since at least September, I have never had any warnings or removed posts. I don't post frequently because I view the DU while at work and thus my time is limited.
While I am a Dean supporter, I have gone out of my way not to flame people or bad mouth other candidates. In fact, I have talked about the importance of unity and sticking together so we can beat Bush.
I still feel like I am unfairly being left out of the process - just like a lot of voters across the country.

I wish I could give you 90 of my posts so you can go on in and knock yourself out, as I have no interest in entering myself.
Though I do sorta understand where the Moderators are coming from.

I'm in the same position. I joined here when The American Prospect board fell apart probably over a year ago (oddly under a similar type of flame fest to the GD2004 board).
I don't post much mostly because I'm an Edwards supporter and feel overwhelmed by the other camps - but I'm not a flamer and have never been reprimanded.
Anyway - I'm leaving for Iowa tomorrow morning and will probably be out on the trail for most of the forseeable future - so not like I'd be around much until the primaries are mostly over.
I just think it's too bad that it limits the least vocal posters - the ones who feel intimidated.

For a moment, I thought about running around and posting the required additional 180 posts so that I would qualify. But to what end. I don't want to comment all the time; I'd rather be known for quality posts than a specific quantity.
There was a point I saw that I REALLY wanted to comment on. But I guess it's just not going to be said...

6. I'd repost this in the "ask the admins" forum. |
|
It's much more likely to get a response and not just get locked.

If you have strong feelings about an opinion of yours that you think needs airing out, just post it in the Politics and Campaigns forum. The replies you get will be well thought out (for the most part) and not just flame tipped arrows. You'll have your 250 posts soon enough.

This new rule unfairly excludes new posters and wholly ignores the fact that the 1000+ posters are by far the worst offenders.
But look on the bright side, you only need 90 more posts. B-)

It's somewhat unfair to people like you, but GD 2004 really does attract a lot of trolls and this is one way to eliminate them. In the meantime there are the other forums you can post on and you will see that 250 post arrive sooner than you think.

maybe that rule could be altered to allow for one-time offenses by people under a certain post count...then no more posting

13. I don't care. But if you do, then post in the Admin forum, not here. |
