If this was Saudi Arabia, these people would be rounded up and would probably face Capital Punishment charges. They would be shackled, tranquilized and beheaded in a public square.

But this is neither Israel, nor Saudi Arabia.

So what's your point?

Protestors defying first amendment zone!!!! CNN reporter says tensions rising! Miles O'Brien says, "What a nightmare for WH advance team!"

That's what happens when an arrogant asshat like Bush decides, as an afterthought, to squeeze in a photo-op with the widow King between fundraisers... :grr:

Think about this. What if the new Revolution against these bloodsucking A-holes begins in the home of the civil rights movement. Can you think of a better way to honor MLK's memory than to participate in a little civil disobedience against "The Man"?

17. right on!
Elfwitch - yor're absolutely correct with your thoughts. There couldn't be a more fitting place for the new revolution than at the King Center.

On this point, I read a great quote from King last night that I will paraphrase; the statement essentially said that there is no better redemptive quality than standing with your brothers and sisters in non-violent opposition to an unjust/immoral cause. How fitting!

15. Are these mostly Black folk, White, or a well-mixed pack?
My guess is that they're mostly Black folk -- ever since the CBC were the only ones to stand up for us after Coup2000, I've had the sense that Black folk are the only Americans who know what courage is all about.

And what a sad indictment that is.

How wonderful if this were the start of a new civil-rights movement!

But, sadly, Coretta Scott King isn't among the protesters. She is or did meet with Smirk privately instead. The protesters are apparently unaffiliated ministers and churchgoers.

The logic of the first-amendment zones is so flawed, its implementation so blatantly political, how could anyone see enforcing the zones as a lawful order?

a fundraiser, but hadn't yet coordinated some kind of public event or appearance that would make the trip billable to the taxpayers and not the campaign.

So, this week, he flips over the calendar page, sees MLK Day and says, "Eureka!" :eyes:

41. update
Hundreds of protesters greeted President Bush in Atlanta shortly before 4 p.m. as he visited the grave of Martin Luther King Jr. on what would have been the slain civil rights leader's 75th birthday.

Buddhists chanting, students beating African drums and others shouting "Bush go home" burst past barriers but were driven back by police who, in an attempt to corral the protesters, parked four MARTA buses between the protesters and the site where Bush will put the wreath.

One protester held a sign that read "Bush - Zionist, puppet and liar."

Police had said they planned to keep the protestors 500 feet away from Kings crypt.

A park ranger on the scene warned protesters if they did not keep off Auburn Avenue the president would not come, but Bush appeared right on schedule, at about 3:50 p.m.

AP reports that two people were arrested for stepping into the street and refusing to move.

49. Here is a run down from one of CatWoman's links... Interesting!
<The protesters pushed past barricades to close in on the president. The Secret Service set up a zone to keep them some 150 yards from the president. However, protesters who arrived in advance of the president refused to step back to the cordoned-off area and instead set up camp just about 50 yards from the crypt.

Drums beat loudly as protesters chanted "In 2004, Bush no more," and held printed signs that displayed King's image and said "War is not the answer."

Police took two protesters into custody and blocked the view of the others with buses.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the president's visit was a way to pay tribute to "Dr. King's legacy, his vision and his lifetime of service.">

...hee hee, shrub* actually had to HEAR them! :)

Even had Bush standing in front of Dr King's crypt...probably got that video from government sources? Why would they not to want show it live? going to the crypt is just to get a photo showing aWol with "coloreds"

more important for bush is that by travelling on government business, we pay for it not his campaign.

how many teachers, cops, after school programs etc etc could be had for what Atlanta had to coughh up for aWol's visit?
