5. Sounds like he's ready to usher in a theocracy
"My attitude is, the government should not fear faith-based programs -- we ought to welcome faith-based programs and we ought to fund faith-based programs," he said from the pulpit of the packed Union Bethel A.M.E Church in a run-down, crime-plagued neighborhood near this city's downtown. "Faith-based programs are only effective because they do practice faith. It's important for our government to understand that."

and

"Problems that face our society are oftentimes problems that, you know, require something greater than just a government program or a government counselor to solve," he said. "Intractable problems, problems that seem impossible to solve, can be solved. There is the miracle of salvation that is real, that is tangible, that is available for all to see."

8. Did you catch this?
From the article:

"Bush decided one year ago to implement by decree..."

Implement by decree?? Shit! This is scary stuff. :scared:

Also, someone else mentioned this. He uses a lot of code words that are understood by his base. What comes to mind is "wonder-working power" and his constant use of "evildoers". That's from the bible, too. I'm sure there are other phrases you all could think of.

The wingnut fundies understand this very well. Mostly, it goes over the heads of progressives.

10. Fundie code words - one of the biggest is FAITH
Fundies believe that Christians come to salvation through FAITH, not through good works. Good works are all fine and good, and a true christian may well feel inspired to do a few, but that isn't what makes them saved - it is the FAITH that does that. So calling something a faith-based program pretty much tells everyone that they think matters and exactly what they have in mind.

When * says ""Faith-based programs are only effective because they do practice faith. It's important for our government to understand that." he's making it abundantly clear to his core that this is about the govt. giving our tax money to save people by saving their souls.
