Big News: My 86 Yr. Old Republican Mom: "Bush is a Terrible President"
Unbelievable.

She voted for Reagan twice, George H. Bush twice, Robert Dole and George W. Bush.

This morning on the phone she finally had seen enough: "Son, George Bush has made a terrible President. He's just terrible."

No small reversal here, folks.

I thought I'd never live to hear anything like that from her.

Maybe, the tide is turning indeed.

I am still reeling from this coming from her...after all these years!

:bounce:

1. Yup
There's a similar post below about a teacher. I, personally, know three people who voted for him before and won't do it again.

Given that we got more votes last time and Bush is losing his former voters, I don't see how he can win. Without cheating, that is.

4. Does she live in a swing state?
I know a handful of Texans who have turned against Bush, but so what! Texas would vote for Bush over Jesus Christ.

5. Texan here...
It is almost a waste of time to vote for a Dem in this state.
But I'm gonna do it anyway.
If you don't vote you lose your right to choose.
I am all about choice.
At the very least I'm going on record as being against *.

17. Bingo. It's Texas!
You have no idea how absolutely impossible this is having her say this. What a turn of events.

6. I just talked to an 83 year old retired career military guy
at the swimming pool today, and somehow the topic got on Bushco. I was preparing myself for a barrage of Faux News talking points, but to my surprise and delight, this gentleman proceeded to excoriate Bush in no uncertain terms. He even mentioned how afraid he was that if Bush gets (re)elected, he will be able to appoint several supreme court justices. I just had to compliment him on his knowledge and perceptiveness.

7. Now if we only had a reliable voting system
But no, many Third World Nations have better, more reliable voting systems thanks to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton's making democracy enviable by example.

Now of course the opposite is true. Democracy is in full retreat because Amerika no longer believes in it. And brutal Totalitarian Scum all over the world are asking themselves right now why they allowed the filthy little nobodies to have votes and why they believed all that bullshit about American democracy because in Amerika it clearly is a disgusting sham.

My great fear is that it doesn't matter who the Imperial Subjects vote for because Emperors and other Totalitarian Scum aren't elected.

And the Busheviks know this. They know the 2004 "election" is already over. And they "won".

20. A Republican staying home and not voting is almost as good as
them actually voting Democratic. If enough people get disgusted enough and there is going to be plenty coming out that will be disgusting then we may not only win the presidency but the entire Congress may fall. Bush*'s coattails may be huge but in the wrong direction. Keep the faith

11. Make sure she votes with us!
Do you think she would go that far? I know some family members who are not happy with *, but I think they'd cut off a limb first before voting for a non-repuke.

13. Same here with my mom
My 80-year old die-hard repub mom is turning her coat, too. She hates the war, is confused and worried about Medicare, her pension, and the fundies' influence.

She is very impressed by Clark re: his resume, foreign policy experience, and she thinks we need a military guy to clip the wings of the hawks.

24. these 80 year olds are probably old-style republicans
who have possibly realized the party today is no longer the party they grew up with

they've probably sensed it changing for a while and now can no longer see 'their party' in today's

25. and all these 70 to 80 year olds seeing the light
possibly explains why the bushco policies are making it harder and harder at the state and fed level for older people to have food and shelter and prescriptions and medical care

a way to get rid of those who still have understanding of real American values

26. Well, 92 year old Mother-in-Law can't stand him and 95 year old Dad....
hasn't liked any President since FDR, but voted for Repugs since then.

Unfortunately he doesn't like either Bush or the Democrats...running....so can't really say what that means, but he's always been a Pat Buchanan Populist with "racial overtones" so it's hard to say where he is on this.

But, My Mom in Law was one of those 30's females who were "independent, educated themselves through college, and wouldn't take guff from anyone.

She thinks Bush is an idiot!

27. My Mortgage Broker
finally asked me how to go to the Clark website. He is an avid Repuke but has finally had enough and wanted to know if Clark had any plans to deal with the deficit and what he intended to do with the Iraq situation. He has a son in High School who graduates in 2004 and he is worried about the draft. Also he wants an enviromental president and someone who will push alternative fuel sources. I asked how he could have been a Repuke. His answer, I hated Bill Clinton, but * has gone to far.
