What do you guys think of Gregg Easterbrook?
He has a blog on The New Republic http://www.tnr.com/easterbrook.mhtml.

I've enjoyed it for a couple months now. He's one of the few writers who seems to not have a clear agenda. He believes in global warming and thinks we should cut greenhouse gasses, but he dislikes those who automatically dismiss the scientific case against it. He is deeply religious, but was opposed to the Ten Commandments display in Alabama. I was just wondering if anybody else reads him and what you think of him.

For NFL fans, he also writes the Tuesday Morning Quarterback column.

1. On the environment, he's a Bush apologist
I've been aware of him since the mid 1990s or so. And you're right that he does a good job of masking his agenda. But over time, it becomes clear nonetheless. His agenda on environmental issues is to be an apologist for Bush. That's about all I've seen him do the last few years.

He is interesting to read, though, at times. Especially on other issues where his agenda isn't always so 'apologistic'.

His recent post on the Bush-Mars thing was right on target.

2. I enjoy TMQ, and have occasion to agree with him.
But there are also times when I vehemently disagree with him. For a conservative, he's OK.

3. "A Moment On The Earth" was a dreadful book
Slipshod, panglossian, riddled with errors both scientific and logical. Aside from that, he's on target some times, off on more.

4. last I heard ESPN/Disney fired him from TMQ
Easterbrook was complaining about violent movies, which he spent a lot of time doing even in his NFL column. He said Michael Eisner (CEO of Disney) should be more sensitive to violence because Eisner is Jewish, and Jews experienced the Holocaust.

So, he was fired. He expressed a good deal of remorse and agreed that his comments were unreasonable, but no more TMQ.

I really liked his football column. It was a great example of sportswriting that didn't assume sports fans are dumbasses who only understand short words.

5. He's interesting
It's hard to put his philosophy into a box, which I like. And Tuesday Morning Quarterback is wonderful so he gets points there.

I still have no idea what his rant on the Weinsteins was about though. That seemed so out of character.

7. That's probably a better description
He's conservative on some things, liberal on others and a moderate on others. When he believes something, he'll push it; but he doesn't always push the same side. It's very refreshing.
