7. yeah- lodging is tight. you might try
have a look at craigslist.org

you can post on a board looking for a place and there are always lotsa folks offering their apartents as sub-leases

I would assue that as the day drws nearer you will find more and more people offering shares

perhaps you could find a deal through AARP (even though 50 is the new 30, of course)

OR.. check throug the rnc and other repub resources. maybe there are deals to be had? and what a hoot to infiltrate!

10. Don't neglect the Boroughs, either!
NYC doesn't end in Manhattan! From any of the 5 Boroughs you'll still be within 45 minutes of downtown.

12. And I bet the Manhattan hotels will gouge on prices.
Between the media, delegates and whoever, the hotels will be able to get away with it.

maybe a Hotel 6 somewhere and we will take a cab to the protests..
we have to take a train because we refuse to fly until the airlines lift their blacklist against peace activists...they can kiss my ass
Ill be there as the mom of a military person in Iraq, and as a patriot against the tyranny of Bush

14. Here are some hostels
http://www.hostels.com/us.ny.ny.html

I think the Gershwin Hotel is pretty reasonable lots of European tourists stay there, and it's cool:

These are supposed to be cheap - and maybe you could share:

http://www.offsoho.com/

There really is not a Motel 6 w/i cab distance. I guess you could stay in NJ and take the train in, but it's more fun to be in Manhattan. And you know they are going to have the place locked down tight.

18. Mari, you might want to check for rooms up the river...
...no, not prison suites ;), but up in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. Cheaper and more plentiful. You can always take a commuter train down to the city the day of the protest.

13. If I had my wish?
A cop, a Fireman, an EMT, a Teacher, an Ironworker, and a child.

If its AWOL, I'll end up in jail for certain.

Just considering the idea fills me with such rage....I don't want to go there. saving it for the fall.

21. if he had tried that, in NYC, at Ground Zero

there wouldn't be enough police to enforce the FAZ. hell, some of them would be on our side.

we would have given the chimp a 'sebastian venable' moment....

27. some of them would be on our side?
Let's put it this way - it would be John Kerry leading the firefighters and NYPD, no matter how much they might not like Hillary, would simply stand aside.

He wouldn't dare. Cheney would smack him again if he even suggested it.

17. Consider
If you can't find a hotel in Manhattan, consider one in one of the other boroughs. But post your choices here so we can tell you where it is and if you can get to Manhattan easily from there.

Or, if you don't mind staying with people, some of us are offering housing.

19. i will be there!

i'm in brooklyn. as it get closer, hopefully we can arrange a DU meetup and coordinate on attending the protests.

hotel space will be tight. but, I doubt that many repubs will be going for the Milford Plaza (which is a less expensive, no-frills place in midtown.)

my dream is to completely PLASTER the city with:

BUSH KNEW! and BUSH LIED, THOUSANDS DIED!

(and I do have a fold-out couch)

22. I'll be there
I was in NYC on September 11, 2001 and you can count on me and a bunch of the others who were here also on that day not being at all pleased about the convention being here.
I think it's going to be like Chicago in 1968 except this time the rest of the country will understand a lot better why people are upset.

24. I'm going to be there
I'll take a train down to NYC from upstate NY.

By car, NYC is about a six to seven hour drive.

I'll definitely ask the NYC DU contingent about lodging.
