Rules for a Village Leader
Every small village over our Histories Highway, from our past to the present, had/has an important responsibility... The well being, safety, and comfort of his/her people.

If the leader overlooks/forgets/ignors the people, then it goes against the general rule. If the leader focuses on only a portion of the people, then he/she is creating class division.

Bush is doing Ed Zackery that/

1. Also, the village leader has a council of elders who advises him
and who can stop him if his actions are detrimental to the well-being of the village. If the elders can't speak up without fearing retaliation, then you have a warlord on your hands. I believe Congress is supposed to function like our elders and they aren't. So Bush is a warlord in every way.

2. Are they any elders(wise old people) in Bushes circle??
From the evidence, nary a one. All seems to be self motivated/interested, overlooking the little ones.... some of which helped install the Bush into power.

Come, we go drink Sanity and Reason. Waterback. 90 Proof.

3. Missed this the first time around
Unfortunately, I think he has cleverly convinced a lot of (gullible) people that he is doing exactly that.... looking after their "safety". From the right-wingers I know, that's what I'm picking up.

As far as the well-being of the people.... well, that kinda went out with Reagan, and the religious right certainly isn't doing much of a job of preaching the WHOLE gospel, in that respect.

Your post illustrates that somehow "the people" have even lost sight of their own best interests. Maybe we're just all too rich for our own good.....

Good post to ponder..... mahalo, opi...

Kanary, off to drink of the sanity and reason.........

4. In Chinese tradition
the emperor had "the mandate of Heaven" and was to be obeyed absolutely--UNTIL he became corrupt or otherwise worked against the best interests of the people. Then it was believed that "the mandate of Heaven" transferred to the person best able to oust him.

5. In the Arab world
the ruler must take into account God and the public. He is REQUIRED to listen to what someone is telling him (even if they disagree with the ruler) and answer it. He is REQUIRED to hear and deal with the problems of the tribe/country. He must uphold the law (SHARIA) to the letter and to the spirit. If not, he will lose the people and be replaced.
