World Social Forum to plot moves against US

Tens of thousands of antiglo-balization activists began the movement’s first convention in Asia Friday with calls to plot action against the United States in retaliation for the war in Iraq.

At least 10,000 people ranging from Indian village women to Western university students packed an open-air theater where the six-day meeting of discussions, debates and dancing were inaugurated by the Pakistani band Junoon.

Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian human rights activist and 2003 Nobel Peace laureate, set the tone by saying “terrorism has to be countered legitimately.”

“Some states including the United States under the guise of legitimacy are unleashing a massive violation of human rights which can be seen in the fog of the thousands of hostages held without trial in Afghanistan and Iraq,” Ebadi said.

2. What an interesting event.
And well attended....

Organizers say 1,000 Americans are among the 78,000 people who registered by the eve of the World Social Forum. Another 22,000 signed up on the last day but it was impossible to know exactly how many people were attending, forum spokesman Gautam Mody said.

She called for the United Nations to work to ensure rights around the world, particularly in the Palestinian territories and Chechnya.

Does she do a stand-up act on Friday nights somewhere?

4. The whole stinking world hates us, yet we are safer.
When is somebody, anybody in this administration going to get a brain? Why do republicans always get high marks for foreign policy? They are the ones who constantly screw it up! Look at history!
