"Perception lags reality"-Ari Fleischer
Page 304 of The Suskind/O'Neill book.

In a discussion of the third tax cut and Social Security amongst of the economic and political/communications staff there is much bandying about on the merits of this cut, O'Neill says it makes no sense but Larry Lindsey is as ever for any and all tax cuts.

After arguments on the whysand Rove informing W of a speech he is to give in Chicago December 10th 2002 Suskind writes the following (I hope this is okay)

The Ari Fleischer, seeing that matters had moved safely form the whys to the hows, summoned an overall precept, one of the administration's guiding principles. "Perception lags reality", he said importantly.

So is my reading of this correct, that the spin put on something outweighs the facts? People will believe what they have been told over what they see?

1. what it MEANS is.....they LIE their ASSES off ALL the TIME.......then.....
the media, if it ever catches up at all, waits til it doesn't matter any more

the Goreathon 2000 is the perfect example of that

remember Barbara Comstock's Boiler Room?

either Time or Newsweek had access to that mendomill during the election, but was "forbidden" to report on it til after it had been stolen!

if they'd reported that garbage in realtime, it may have made a difference

but NOoooooooooooooooooooooo!

2. Yes perception is what drives most people
Example is in advertising the packaging of a product can determine whether it sells or not even if the contents are lousy. A funny example is a person who dresses immaculately on every occasion but has on wholly under garments. lol} So this group in the WH has used perception to it's advantage but now people are waking up to see that there are flaws in the product they have been selling, they are now opening the package and examining the contents.
