1. Their women are the most "out of control" and the men want to
get them under control.

You can't have women making decisions about their own bodies.

2. sex education is part of the Democratic Platform
If you are educated, do you think that it will be less likely that a miscalculation or a mistake will occur?

3. Utah and Idaho have low abortion rates.
Do you have a chart that shows abortion rates per state? Could you post it here?

9. These are neither RATES nor state-specific abortion Frequencies!
Take a closer look, folks. I think you misunderstood the map (which is misleading, granted).

11. misleading?
How about DUMB? (Are they stupid, or are they evil; are they stupid, or are they evil? No, no, not women ... the anti-choice brigade.)

You're absolutely right, of course, the map hasn't got a single thing to do with abortion rates or frequency, or even numbers, in any states at all.

The point of the map is to "illustrate" how many people "aren't" because the corresponding number of pregnancies (42,000,000, they say) were terminated instead of producing taxpayers.

The population of the big, sparsely inhabited states in question apparently totals roughly the same.

Of course, you could get roughly the same total populations by adding together, what, New York state and California?

But then nobody'd get the point ... who in middle America (the states they cleverly chose for their illustration) would care if the equivalent of NY state and California had gone missing? ;)

But hey, wouldn't that be just what the US needs right now? An extra 42,000,000 people, plus the extra people that would have resulted from their childbearing. (The numbers start running 30 years ago ... and yeah, what about those earlier illegal abortions, not to mention all the illegal abortions there would have been if abortion weren't legal? Doesn't anybody miss those "people"? Equally to the point: wouldn't they be "missing" if abortion weren't legal? Cause and effect, cause and effect ...)

42,000,000 people and their kids, all looking for the jobs that Bush promised them.

Damn -- maybe they would have voted for Gore.

4. I think that shows that the abortion rates
create the pro-lifers rather than the pro-lifers creating (or deflating) the abortion rate.

They are (obviously) reactionaries.

5. Um, I think you misunderstood the map....

They're only trying to portray in some visual way (a bad one, really) what 42 million people seems like. Of course they pick a pile of contiguous states with small populations and large surface areas. Saying that that number is less than 15% of the present total population just wouldn't make a "point".

It's disingenuous that they pretend that no abortions (which were legal in a bunch of states and Mexico) took place before 1973.

8. Yes, this is NOT a map of abortion frequency by state nor rates
It is simply what the authors purport to be a visual representation of what the total numbers equal in terms of state populations.

6. Maybe they have a large population of childbearing aged women?
As long as there have been men and women, there have been abortions.. It will always be that way..

The only difference is that when they are legal, available and affordable, women tend not to die so often...

If men were the ones to become pregnant, clinics would probably be franchised like fast food places..

7. I'd suggest....
that it might be because the fundie types who are pro-life tend to not use birth control, thinking it's not going to happen to them.

10. Age of debut
That reminds me of a comparison I saw between US and a number of european countries on sexual activity in the age group 15-19 yrs.
Country Births Abortions Pregnancies Unprotected_Sex
Sweden 0.8% 1.7% 2.5% 6.5%
France 1.0% 1.0% 2.0% 11.9%
U.S.A. 5.4% 2.9% 8.4% 20.0%
