Barrick Gold Corporation (ABX) appoints shadowy Venezuelan billionaire to board, VHeadline.com, September 11, 2003
By David Coleman
Sep 11, 2003, 20:57

Editorial Note: The fact that Cisneros has teamed with Bush/Barrick Gold Corp., is bad enough, but this sentence found in the first paragraph of the article below is completely dis-heartening:

"He is also widely held to be the shadowy financier behind the April 2002 coup d'etat against President Hugo Chavez Frias and uses his broadcasting and media interests in Venezuela and North America in a continued campaign against the legitimate government of the country to which his father had originally fled from Cuba."

1872 law needs rewrite

YOU'VE got to give Rep. Nick J. Rahall points for tenacity. He's been
attempting to reform a 19th century mining law for so long, it almost
feels like he started not long after its 1872 passage.

He's trying again to rewrite a law that originally was intended to
spur Western development by allowing land to be purchased and mined
at ridiculously low prices.

Rahall said the General Mining Law of 1872 has resulted in the
transfer of $245 billion in mineral-rich property to corporate mining
interests that paid between $2.50 and $5 an acre, with no royalties.

In return, the mining companies have stuck taxpayers with the bill
for cleaning up abandoned mines, a bill that ranges between $32
billion and $72 billion.

Just think about the Democrats who did and said zilch to support Al Gore against this evil Cabal in December 2000, or on the day the Electoral College was held ... it seems some were concerned about their own ambitions, and were mute ... some used one of the saddest times in our democracy as an opportunity to move their own chess pieces forward. It certainly makes his endorsements easier to understand.
